SCARBOROUGH, Robert Milton

July 19, 1933 – Carizzo Springs, USA
October 6, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Bob (Robert) Scarborough passed away suddenly in his home on Saturday, October 6, 2018. Although his passing was a shock to the family, it was not unlike Bob to do things out of the ordinary and he made sure that his family was around him when he decided to depart this world.

Bob was born in Carrizo Springs, Texas in 1933. He grew up in Redlands, CA, and later went on to complete engineering degrees in both Petroleum and Geological Science at Texas A&M University while on a full track and field scholarship, at that time competing internationally in the 200 and 400 meter sprint and for a time holding 4th ranking in North America as a top sprinter.

His love for the oil and gas industry, and his expertise in Heavy Oil, led him from Louisiana to Newport Beach before making his way to Calgary where he made his home. First launching Dome Petroleum’s Heavy Oil division, he was a pioneer in the industry, discovering many of the assets that have built wealth in Alberta today and bringing many technologies to the oil industry, earning a reputation as a fair, honest and innovative leader.

His family were the most important people in his life. He loved and doted on his wife Bonnie and was a loving father, mentor and friend to daughter Michelle (Alex) and son Darren (Melody), his pets Kalei the dog and Willy, the 24 year old cat. His generosity, love and kindness extended far and wide to all that he touched. He was a friend to all, often going out of his way to support others. He will be remembered with gratitude for his laughter, his love of life, college football and golf, and his presence.

Celebration of Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Bob Scarborough, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

  6. Brian D. Calhoun :

Dearest Bonnie, Michelle and Darren, friends and family:

Know that your loved one is very much now at peace and in heaven, resting and healing after his earthly journey. He promises to bring you signs that he is very much still present in your lives and with you all. He says you can’t get rid of him that easy. He has heard each of you over the last several days and promises to continue to be there for you all to the best of his ability.

He loves you all so much, he only wishes he would have shown and told you all how much he meant to him. Words could never describe the immenseness of his love. He says you each hold a special place in his heart and his love is being sent to you now.

He is very grateful to you for the teachings, gifts and blessings you brought to him in life, and now in “death.” He is very appreciative you were a part of his life. You are stronger than you give yourself credit for. He says it is a strength to let yourself feel and be true to yourself. It is a strength to reach out for help when one needs it, don’t wait until it’s too late. He now understands and gets it! Let his memory live on in your daily routines, love and laughter all the days of your lives.

Take your time to grieve as there is no expiration date or even a correct way to process death. There is only one way, and that is your way! And it is okay to not be okay with what has happened. In time, this too shall pass. The storm of darkness will eventually fade away into the deep abyss. The clouds will lift away to reveal the sun, blue skies and the rainbow once again.

Heavenly rainbow hugs with love and light.
    Brian D. Calhoun

    Bonnie, Darren and Michelle

When you love someone, when they pass, there is a hole that is left. Fill the hole with the laughter you shared, the things you learned, the time you got to have together. Your memory of Bob keeps his love for you and family alive. So sorry for your loss.

  8. I am saddened by Bob’s passing. My thoughts go out to you Bonnie, and to Michelle and Alex, and Darren and Melody I remember fondly the first time I met Bob. About three hours later, I felt that I had known him most of my life. He was always ready to lend a hand and his bright mind and kind heart will be missed. Let’s hope that they have a full selection of cable football channels in Heaven. Michael Thomson
