December 25, 2013 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with a sad heart that the family of Thomas Robert “TR” Sas announces his passing on Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at the age of 75 years.

Tom immigrated to Canada as a young man in 1953, from Holland with his family. He became a Canadian citizen in 1974. He will always be remembered for his warm and friendly demeanor and for socializing with his family and friends. Tom’s passion for life was reflected through his passion for living his life as he wanted and with whoever wanted to socialize with him. For those who knew Tom in his younger years he was known as one of the great guys and he had the ability and an attraction that everyone wanted to be around.

Tom had a big heart and tried when he could to show his true feelings. Being a person of very few words, you had to read and interpret his feelings through his expressions and actions. Tom was a very hard worker and tried to make the best of what he had. He built a reputation as an excellent painter and in his later years, he became a taxi driver, where many people got to know him as “TR” Sas.

Tom will forever be remembered by his family and friends and he will be greatly missed.

Tom leaves behind his daughter Patricia (Gilles) Rivet; his sons, Chris (Gabriella) Sas and Tom Sas; his favourite nephew Chester (Richelle) Belzerowski; and two sisters, Sylvia Pelz and Vi Volenecz. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and great-nieces that he held memories of close to his heart.

Tom was predeceased by his mother Wouterina Schmidt (Sas); his father Robert (Bob) (Gysbertus) Sas; and his sister Ann Belzerowski.

Tom, “Go in Peace”, knowing the love of your family and that you will always be remembered by those who got to know you.

As per TR’s wishes, the family will privately celebrate his life at a later date in Red Deer. Condolences may be forwarded through If friends so desire, memorial tributes in TR’s honour may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 200, 119 – 14th Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 Telephone: (403) 264-5549, or to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 – 29 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 4N2 Telephone: 1 (866) 412-4222.
