SPENCER, Sandra Lynn

March 19, 1949 – October 4, 2018

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sandy Spencer after a very courageous battle with cancer. Sandy passed away peacefully at 4:00pm on Thursday, Oct 4th with her loving children at her bedside.

Sandy leaves behind her loving husband, Lee Spencer, son Shawn Lowe (Chantelle), grandchildren Kyla & Kaitlyn, daughter Shannon Lewis (Greg), grandchildren Cody, Talen & Gracelyn, son Tyler Lowe (Katherine), and Nana’s newest grandchild, Ella. Sandy put her children before anything else in her life and thought the world of them. Her grandchildren adored her and recognized her kindness and loving personality early on, which allowed all of them to form a very special bond with Nana.

Sandy was predeceased by her parents Wilbert & Dorothy Clarke in 2013. She was the oldest of four children, and leaves behind three siblings that she loved dearly. Her sister Loye St. Pierre (Ron), sister Karen Wagner (Dwight), and brother Dean Clarke (Marcy). With this, Sandy also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, their children and spouses…and many, many special friends whom she loved dearly.

Sandy will be fondly remembered for her love of family, impeccable fashion, quick wit and her love to travel to tropical destinations. She had a genuine kindness, was selfless, and truly beautiful inside and out. Sandy spent her life pursuing her passion of taking care of others, as she graduated from Regina, SK as an RN in 1969. One of her first and very favorite jobs was working in the emergency department at the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary. From there, she worked in various hospitals in Calgary until she retired as an occupational health nurse with the Calgary Board of Education in 2008. She made many close friends throughout her career and even more memories which lasted a lifetime.

Sandy’s farewell will be a “Celebration of Life” to be held at the Apple Creek Golf Course (11064 RR275 Rockyview AB). Thursday, OCT 18th, 2018 @ 3pm – 6pm (5 minutes NORTH of Airdrie, west of HWY #2, access from the Dickson Stevenson Trail). We would also like to remind everyone that Sandy loved sunshine, the tropics, bright colors and everyone being comfortable. If you will be attending the celebration for Sandy, bright colors are welcome.

If friends so desire, the family would appreciate donations to the Kerby Centre in Calgary (1133 – 7 Avenue SW, Calgary, AB T2P 1B2). The family would also like to extend our gratitude to Dr. Sharma and the entire palliative care team at the Dulcina Hospice for their compassionate care and support.

  18. To Sandy’s family & friend’s. I was very fortunate to work with Sandy at the Holy Cross Emerg Dept. She was a caring & dedicated nurse. We all had great fun together in the department and cared deeply for each other. We would all re meet occasionally over these recent years for lunches and remembering. Sandy was an avid knitter and joined my knitting for the homeless group 3 years ago. Alas, she simply told me she would not be able to participate this year.
Her family was very important to her as I am sure she was to you all. My condolences to you & keep your memories close to your heart , as I will also.
