SAJE, John Ivan

November 14, 1933 – Slovenia
October 4, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John Ivan Saje on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at the age of 83 years.

John was born in the former Yugoslavia. One of eleven children, he immigrated to Canada, living first in Manitoba, working on a railway before moving to Ontario to start his own electrical business. He then settled in Alberta where he continued his trade as a master electrician. He was very efficient with other trades and had many innovative ideas for any job he tackled. He loved gardening and many neighbours walking past his house commented on how lovely it was. John also loved fishing, camping, listening to Johnny Cash songs, travelling, making sausage and other meats as well as wine making which earned him several awards in the wine-tasting competitions at the Slovenian Hall.

John is survived by his life partner, Alice; sons John (Debbie, predeceased), Dan (Sherri) and Andrew (Valerie); their mother, Alojzija Saje; grandchildren, Jake and Maia – Rose; his relatives in Slovenia; brother Joze (Mihelca); sisters Stanka, Alojzija, Milka, Rezka, Micka as well as many nieces and nephews, friends and acquaintances. He was predeceased by his father, Franc; mother, Ivana; brother, France and sisters Anica and Danica.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the Slovenian Hall (2335 16a Street S.E.). Please wear a favourite hat. Condolences may be forwarded through
