It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of Dorothy Elinor Robinson (nee Rossell) on, Saturday, August 17, 2019 at the age of 91.
Dorothy was fortunate to have a long fulfilling life. She was an accomplished classical pianist, accompanist, voice coach and choral director. Dorothy studied music at the University of Winnipeg and was a Gold Medal (L.M.M, A.M.M.) recipient from the University of Manitoba. She obtained her Piano Solo Performance Diploma from The University of Toronto Royal Conservatory of Music. Her career span decades and she became a sought-after piano accompanist by many; including, world renowned opera singer, Jon Vickers. She was employed by; post-secondary institutes as an accompanist to aspiring musicians, opera companies, ballet studios, professional music organizations, and choral groups throughout western Canada and Southern California.
Despite demands as a professional musician, her family and children remained her top priority. As a mother she provided much love, understanding, patience, honesty and guidance. She was generous to those around her and gave back to local communities. She volunteered many hours sharing her knowledge and expertise of music with amateur musicians, local church choirs and children’s groups.
Dorothy was curious by nature and possessed a sense of adventure. Over the course of her life, she resided in Austria, England, the United States and Canada. She enjoyed travelling and journeyed extensively throughout North America and Europe. She was a knowledgeable gardener, an avid sports spectator and hockey fan; plus, she enjoyed skating, golfing, canoeing, and outdoor activities.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, Cam Millar (Kitty Clark) and granddaughter Valerie, Ross Millar (Barb) and grandson Shawn Turner, Janet Boger (Cody) and step-granddaughter Autum Bower. She was predeceased by second husband, Floyd Robinson, 2007.
