Ann Carrol Richardson of Calgary, passed away surrounded by her beloved family on Monday, September 5, 2016 at the age of 79 years.

Ann Carrol was born on October 5, 1936 in Calgary to Louise and Otto Johnson. A graduate of the University of Alberta’s Registered Nursing Class of 1958, she maintained a lifelong bond with her classmates. After pioneering family-centered neonatal and maternity care as a hospital manager (she was responsible for fathers finally being allowed in Calgary delivery rooms), she co-founded Calgary’s Home Care Medical Supply Centre, revolutionizing the medical supply business.

A passionate traveler, she visited the Soviet Union and China in the early ’80s, took the Orient Express, lived on the Love Boat (up and down the Panama Canal) and embarked on an African safari. She loved Hawaiian sunsets, eating out and picking up her grandchildren after school, her purse filled with treats. With her gleaming silver hair, red nails and bright smile, she was an elegant, engaging companion.

Ann Carrol is survived by her loving partner Victor Bohonos; daughter Shelley Youngblut (Michael Kelly); son Scott Youngblut (Donna Taylor); sister Kathleen Leach (Harvey); grandchildren, Alex Youngblut (Kelly Neubauer), Katie Youngblut, Vaughn and Laine Kelly; great-grandchildren, Grey Youngblut,
Kason Docherty,
Kamryn Vierstra and Jaiden Vierstra; and her devoted niece, nephews and their extended families.

At Ann Carrol’s request, there will be no funeral, in favour of a future gathering of family and friends. Forward condolences through In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre (AARC), 303 Forge Road SE, Calgary, AB T2H 0S9, (403) 705-2017,
We extend our sincere gratitude to the Unit 57 staff at Rockyview Hospital, who treated a fellow healthcare professional with respect, humour and kindness.
