RICHARD, Kimberley Shane

June 18, 1965 – August 8, 2012

It is with deepest sorrow Dianne and Wilf have to announce the very sudden and unexpected passing of their only son Kim, on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at the age of 47 years

Kim was born in Lethbridge, AB. At 6 months old, the family moved to Calgary. Company transfers took family to Vancouver, back to Calgary, then back to Vancouver where Kim began school at Parkland Elementary. Finally back to Calgary, to stay, Kim attended St. Boniface Elementary, St. Bonaventure Junior High, and Bishop Grandin High school, attended University of Calgary and went on to work in various businesses with his father. He owned and operated our family golf course, Birchwood, in Lindale, AB for 11 years. He very happily moved back to Calgary a year ago, saying family was everything and he was happy to be here with us.

Kim played hockey from peanut to Calgary Buffaloes triple A midget and on to the Calgary Spurs of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
Kim then went on to racing cars; Drag strips, oval track Super stock Series, Cascar West, winning the Cascar Western Canada Sportsman Series. After 19 years he went back to drag strip racing; the highlight being a trip to Phoenix to compete on the televised “Pinks All Out”.
Kim worked with and was vice president of his father’s development company.

This past winter he was an assistant coach on his beloved nephew’s hockey team where he was well thought of and respected by coaches, players and their parents.

Kim was predeceased by Nana and Papa Burbridge and Grandpa Richard, and his first precious dog “Zeus”. He leaves to love and miss him forever: his mother and father; his sister Marla and nephew Michael; his sister Lisa, brother-in-law Jeff, niece Katie and nephew Benny; Grandma Richard; his two dogs Shane and Mikka; numerous Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins; stepsons Tony and Mark and their mother Barbara.

Kim touched the lives of so many and was loved by all who knew him; business people in Calgary and Nanaimo, very good friends, people we have never even known especially on a net game called Kingdoms of Camelot where he was known as SIR KIM – a wonderful tribute called “Remembering Sir Kim” was made by his friends that everyone should log on to see.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through

  9. Wilf and Dianne,

It has been a number of years, Wilf, since I have seen you but I was a secretary at Canadian Development Properties with you and Kim.
Kim was one of my first friends when I moved to Calgary. He was for me a caring friend, a friendly ear, and he always brightened my day with his smile and love of life.
I wish I had kept in touch but, as so often happens, I lost touch with Kim eventually and haven’t seen him in many years.
I can’t tell you how shocked and saddened I am about your loss. Nothing I can say could ever make you feel any better but I just want you to know that your son is remembered and respected and that he has touched more lives than even he may know.
    Jeanne Fagan
