REID, Stanley (Stan) Livingstone

May 5, 1924 – Vancouver, British Columbia
March 22, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Stanley “Stan” Reid.

Stan was born and raised in Vancouver. He joined the RCAF during WWII and was a pilot for the remainder of his service.

After the war, Stan met Ellen at the 1946 Victoria Day Parade in Burnaby, and they were married in 1952. He was employed by the Hudson’s Bay Company as the women’s shoe buyer. The Bay moved Stan and his family to many Canadian cities over his thirty-six year career, finally settling in Calgary. After retiring from the Bay, he joined the Bally Shoe Company as manager of their warehouse.

Stan had many hobbies. He enjoyed wood-working, vegetable gardening, wine making, and drumming with several local Calgary pipe bands. He and Ellen were active members of Holy Nativity Anglican Church. He also enjoyed being a member of the Southern Alberta Air Crew Association and belonged to the 285 Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.

Stan is survived by his daughters Valeta (Albert) and Victoria; eight grandchildren, Audra (Mike), Erin (Jeff), Vanessa (Marcus), Lauren, Reid, Mariana, Sydney and MacInnes; three great-grandchildren, Madison, Alexander and Florence; and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Ellen, his daughter Vanessa and his sisters Constance and Kathleen.

Funeral Services will be held at Holy Nativity Anglican Church (12707 Bonaventure Drive S.E., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through

  4. Lynn Ost, first Pipe Major, Calgary International Airport Pipe Band

Stan was forever a gentleman with a heart of gold. His touch on the bass drum was magic, making the music come alive. We played together in the Scottish Traditions and Glengarry pipe bands. He played and instructed with me personally in the Calgary International Airport Pipe Band when we first started up, his positive attitude and talents helping to set us off in the right direction. May he rest in peace in the knowledge that he made at least a small corner of the world a much better place through his music and his gentle positive nurturing nature. Thanks Stan.
