Posted By Obits On March 22, 2017 @ 12:21 PM In Obituary | 130 Comments

October 6, 1955 – Stettler, Alberta
March 20, 2017 – Cabo San Lucas

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Kenneth Rea on March 20th, 2017 in Cabo San Lucas.

Doug said goodbye peacefully in a resort much like his beloved place at Buffalo Lake, surrounded by tranquil waters, sandy beaches and sunshine. He would want his family and friends to carry this message of remembrance in their hearts.

Doug loved his wife Angela deeply. Their special relationship was one of a kind, a true genuine bond with unconditional love. Second to Angela was the special bond with his children; Derrick, Janine, his much loved daughter-in-law Emilie, and he was very excited about the arrival of his first grandson. If you were fortunate to know Doug, you became a better person. Doug (Dad) will be deeply missed by his friends and family.

Doug is survived by his loving wife Angela; daughter Janine; son and daughter-in-law Derrick and Emilie; his sisters, Sherri and Kathy; and numerous in-laws. His nieces and nephews held a special place in his heart.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 200, 119 – 14th Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 Telephone: (403) 264-5549, www.heartandstroke.ca. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Doug Rea, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB Telephone: 403-256-9575.

Why God took Doug home at this time, we do not know. But, we must trust in the Lord and His plan for our lives. Jesus said, “I am the Resurrection and the life; those who believe in Me, though they die, will live; and everyone who lives and believes in Me, will never die”. Trusting in the Lord and trusting that Doug is safe in the arms of Jesus, the sadness of death gives way to the bright promise of immortality. Dear Lord, please bless the Rea family. Give them Hope and Strength. Help them to Trust in your plan for Doug. Walk with them in the difficult days ahead. Angie & family, every time you see a beautiful sunset or gaze at the billions of stars in the sky out at the lake, know that Doug is ok. God bless.

Condolence from Rick New on March 27th, 2017 3:37 PM

There is a Neil Diamond song, “Done Too Soon”, that recites the names of noted and famous individuals who, given their evident contribution to the world, in his estimation died too early in life. This is definitely the case for my good friend Doug!
However, like those named in the song, Doug’s legacy is obviously huge not only with his family, friends, neighbours (Stettler, home, & lake), but also, Doug will not be easily forgotten amongst those of us who knew him Downtown and in his professional capacity. He could be counted on to be genuinely open, caring and fair. Though “Done Too Soon”, Doug’s legacy with me speaks of a life well lived, without reservation, living in full consideration for those around him and particularly in such a special way for me.
…. Much sadness! Much celebration!
He will be missed!

Condolence from Bill Rennie on March 27th, 2017 5:00 PM

My sincerest sympathy. I worked with Doug for a number of years at Gulf Oil, first at the Rimbey Gas Plant and later in Calgary. I would also run into him almost daily either in the lobby or the elevator of the Standard Life Building where Tidal and the company I worked for had offices. Doug was well liked and respected by all who worked with him.

I am so sorry to hear about your family’s loss. I will fondly remember all the times we spent together at IG events, especially our last one this year. I had a special heart to heart with Doug. He was looking forward to his next chapter of his life, spending more time with family. He will be a mentor, a true family man.

Condolence from Rick Horne on March 29th, 2017 8:26 PM

To Angie & your youngsters. I regret being unable to attend the funeral of my good friend Doug Rea. I reminisce doing bachelor time with Doug at our cabins at Buffalo Lake. Catching, cleaning, cooking, eating & even digesting the pike. All by ourselves! We’d grab a bow & arrows & a hunting knife (none of which we were really allowed to take) & go into the trees like genuine woodsmen. And burning doughnuts in the bay with Grandpa Horne’s 12 foot rowboat with a small motor on the back. Some folks did not take kindly to that…those young whipper snappers…showing off. Some things stick with you…like Doug’s laugh. It was contagious. Goodbye old friend…be thinking of you until the day I join you up there in the heavens. …Rick Horne
