November 11, 1946 – Viborg, Denmark
July 25, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Birte Ramsay of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at the age of 72 years.

Daughter of Svend and Grete Lindhardsen, Birte was born in Viborg, Denmark on November 11, 1946. Birte immigrated to Canada with her family as a child, and grew up in Lynn Lake, MB. She obtained her Bachelors of Commerce in 1967, from the University of Manitoba, and then accepted a job teaching business classes at SAIT, in Calgary. It was there she met her future husband, Frederick (Fred) Ramsay. They married, in Calgary, on October 12, 1968. In 1976, Birte obtained her certification as a Chartered Accountant, and began a long and successful accounting career in Calgary. Birte was generous with her time and expertise, and served on many boards and committees, as well as being actively involved in her professional community. Mom loved to travel and play golf and, in recent years, relished curling up in her chair and devouring crime novels.

Besides her loving husband, Birte is survived by her children, Rick Ramsay (Elisabeth Finney) and Paula Ramsay (Blake Matthews); and grandchildren, Jasper, Ella and Micah. She will be deeply missed by her many friends, colleagues, and clients. She was predeceased by her brother Steen, in 1985

In living memory of Birte Ramsay, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

I was so sad to see Birte’s passing. Fred & Birte provided so much tax advice as well as friendship all the years my husband Glen & I owned our business. Their assistance and wisdom was always so good that I frequently quote her comment “try it, CRA will never offer you the tax incentive if you don’t take it. They can only say no” I have so frequently used this in other situations.
Paula even worked for us one summer. I have such fond memories of her. She was a wonderful lady.
Our condolences to Fred , Paula and Rick and families.

I was so saddened to read Birte’s obituary yesterday in the Calgary Herald. Birte was my Economics/Accounting instructor at SAIT in 1967-69. She was a wonderful teacher, even when she asked me to leave class one day as I was talking to a fellow student during her lecture. HaHa! I don’t blame her, and I did get the feeling that she regretted doing after I apologized for chatting in class! What I remember most about Birte is the ultimate path in life that she created for me as she phoned me, shortly after graduation from the Secretarial Arts Department at SAIT, and told me there was an opening for an accounting instructor in Secretarial Arts and that she recommended that I apply. I did get the job and I owe her many thanks and gratitude as my life took a wonderful, rewarding career path. I am so glad to see that Birte also had a rewarding life and enjoyed being a wife, mother and grandmother. My sincere condolences to all!
