QUINN, Margaret

May 17, 1923 -Main River, New Brunswick
November 20, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Margaret, beloved wife of the late Maurice Quinn passed away on Nov 20, 2018 at the age of 95 years.

Born in Main River, NB May 17, 1923 she was the oldest daughter of James and Mary (Targett) Roach. She grew up in Richibucto NB and trained as an RN in Campbellton, NB. Upon completing her nurses training she moved to Alberta and worked at St. Michael’s hospital in Lethbridge, AB where she met her husband Maurice and they married in Milk River, AB on Oct 22, 1947. She resided in Milk River where she was the unofficial “town doctor” and actively involved in the community, she volunteered with the CWL, enjoyed curling and bowling and was known for her cinnamon buns and Christmas dinners. Family and friends were important to Marg, she was a care-giver at heart and anyone who knew her only needed to ask for help and she would be there for you. She moved with her family to Virden, MB in 1970, and finally settled in Killarney, MB in 1973 where she lived, raised her family and worked as the charge nurse at the Killarney Long Care Facility until she retired, at which time she moved back to Alberta to be close to her oldest daughter Judy.

As the years went by and her declining mobility forced her to move into higher care facilities her mind and spirit remained strong and she faced each obstacle with strength and dignity until the end. Anyone who had the honour of having Marg in their lives will be forever blessed.

She will be sadly missed by her daughters Judy Quinn of Lethbridge AB, Myrna (Brian) Selmon of Winnipeg MB, and Maura (Brad) Myers of Brandon MB; grand-children Melissa (Craig) Ratz, Steven (Kayla), Michael (Chloe), and Daniel Champagne and great grand-children Brooke, Mason, and Ainsley Ratz.

She also leaves behind one sister, Myrtle (Bob) Hall of Edgewater FL., one sister-in-law Kathryn Stewart of Kingston ON, and two brothers-in-law Bill (Margaret-Ann) Quinn of Calgary AB, and Harry Quinn of Edmonton AB, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Maurice, her parents James and Mary Roach and siblings, Donna Roach, Jim Roach, Charlotte Lantz, Nellie Sullivan, Annie Casey, Mayme Graham, and Albena Goffinet.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.

Judy, Myrna and Maura and Families
The Welsh Families were very saddened to hear of your mom’s passing. You will have many great memories to remember her by as do we.
My first memory was going to she her in the upstairs apartment on Main Street Milk River after I slammed my finger in the car door and I needed a “doctor’s” care. The Christmas Day Dinners were always special and fun. Bumper pool table games were especially fun. Your mom was always calm and collected in the mayhem and hubbub of the day. With all the Quinn’s, Jennings, Arials and Stewart’s, it was quite the annual gathering.
Unfortunately Marlene and I cannot make the service in Calgary tomorrow but we will be thinking of all of you and say a prayer for your Mom. Bless you girls for being such wonderful caregivers for your mom and Judy. Thanks for all the FB updates too.
Marilyn wrote: Always loved Marg. Loved her laugh and presence. Marg was very gracious. And Marg told mom she got great pleasure from Judy and Judy was always happy to see her and have her mom there. I think Marg and Mom always had fun shopping, many giggles! Karen wrote: Marg was such a steady and generously giving person. I’m happy she is now entering her eternity and expect that is a joyful event. I will be praying for her. Wayne wrote: She was always very helpful for Mom when we were growing up, especially when someone was sick Mom would phone her to get her opinion. We had quite a few Christmas Day dinners at their house, as she took the burden off Aunt Cecelia with so much commotion going on…and with a few suffering from the night-before party! I thought she held her family together amazingly well. I think the twins brought her the much joy as the years went on and as she starting having health problems. So she was a true pioneer and family pillar.

  11. Dear Judy, Myrna and Maura

I was saddened to learn of aunt Margaret’s passing. I have such good memories of my time with you all in Killarney. I especially remember your mother and I going to the Morris Stampede. So much Fun! I still think of you Myrna and Maura each time I have soup and a sandwich for lunch as that is what we had every day during my summer visit so many years ago. I will always remember your mother as a kind and caring person. My condolences to you and your families.
