POLLOCK, Graham John

March 5, 1928 – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
August 20, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Graham Pollock passed away on August 20, 2018 at the age of 90 years.

He was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on March 5, 1928. Graham moved with his family to Calgary, Alberta in 1940.  He lived in Calgary most of his life completing his high school years at Western Canada High School  where he met the love of his life, Margaret (Peggy) Bell. They married in 1950.

Graham began his working career at the Imperial Bank of Canada. In 1948 he left to start a new career at Mannix Construction.  He started out as Assistant to the Assistant Purchasing Agent eventually becoming President of Mannix Construction.  In 1965 after 24 years of service he left to become President of ATI International .This position allowed Graham and Peggy to travel to many exotic locations around the world. They also loved their yearly trips to Maui joined by many great friends and family.

Graham retired at 65 yet his interest in business and the market never waned.

Graham was an outstanding athlete.  He played baseball as a kid and hockey in the winters in Saskatoon.  He played with Gordie Howe before Gordie was recruited to the farm team in Saskatoon.  Graham loved hiking, skiing, and the family cabin at the Bar K C Ranch in Bragg Creek. He was an excellent equestrian and taught his children how to care for and ride their horses. He was also an avid golfer which resulted in 4 holes-in-one over the years.  Walking was his favorite exercise.  While in his seventies, Graham hiked the Chilkoot Trail with his son Jim and his grandson Aaron who was 11 years old at the time.  He also hiked the Grand Canyon, Mt. Assiniboine and many  trails of the Canadian Rockies.  Eventually he could no longer hike the big trails but would walk daily well into his eighties.

Graham and Peggy were a very loving couple who instilled their love of family to their children and grandchildren.

Peggy passed on in 2015 which left a huge void in Graham’s life. Graham passed away peacefully with his family by his side.  A special thanks to the staff of Maison Senior Living for the love and care they provided during his years there.

Graham is survived by his children Terry Holden (Greg Holden), Bill Pollock (Daphne Pollock), and Jim Pollock (Mary Ellen Pollock); his grandchildren Richard Holden (Carrie Holden), Derek Holden (Erin Holden), Carey Pollock, Aaron Pollock, and Sally Pollock ; and finally, his great-granddaughter Whitney Holden.

Graham will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.  A celebration of life will be held at the Glencoe Club (636 29 Ave SW, Calgary, AB T2S 0P1) on October 20, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

A donation in Graham and Peggy’s memory can be made to the Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area.
