PHILLIPS, Karen Anne (nee Curry)

December 22, 1937 – Montreal, Quebec
June 16, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

In the early morning hours of Saturday, June 16, Karen lost her long battle to stay with us; she has now “gone sailing with Dad”.

Karen Ann Curry was born on December 22, 1937, in Montreal, QC, to Helen and Ken Curry. Having lived all over the country, Karen gathered many life-long friends in Hudson, QC, Bedford, NS, South Surrey, BC and finally in Calgary, AB. She is now at peace and her years of health challenges are over.

Karen will be lovingly remembered by her children, Ken and his wife Jane of Vancouver, Stephen and his wife Susan of Bali, Kathryn Gregory and her husband Neil of Calgary; as well as her grandchildren, Carter, Teagan and Robbie; her aunt, the INDOMITABLE CASEY; and her many cousins and friends.

God bless you Mom. You will be always in our thoughts and prayers.

At her request, a memorial tea will be held in her honour for the residents and staff at Auburn Heights, where she was a well-loved resident and friend to many. Condolences may be forwarded through Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at South Health Campus. The remarkable care and kindness shown to Mom over the years are a standard of care other institutions may only hope to emulate.

In living memory of Karen Phillips, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB, T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.

Kathy and family, I had the very great honour of knowing both your parents and my world is better for it. They both showed me such kindness and generosity always. I well remember Karen’s excellent entertaining us in their home. At one time I was dating a man named Erskine, in order to remember his name so she could greet him and make him feel welcome she had written on her hand foreskin + E 🙂 It still makes me smile. The thought of them sailing together is very comforting. Sincerely, Joan
