PETERS, Kathleen (nee Achtymichuk)

August 20, 1927 – Smoky Lake, Alberta
November 22, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Kathleen Peters said good bye to her family on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at the age of 91 years.

After several years of health challenges our beloved mother, wife, Grammy and great-Grammy lost her battle with Multiple Myeloma. Kathy came from a large family of 15 children and was a farm girl at heart who loved nature and gospel music. She had a beautiful smile and a feisty spirit and welcomed everyone into her home where she served fabulous meals and warm hospitality. Kathy was a college graduate and worked for many years with Scotiabank and in the insurance industry before retiring. She lived for her ‘girls’ and in later years their families too. She loved to sew and garden and each spring you could count on her house being filled with hundreds of seedlings just waiting to be planted. She will be greatly missed by her five daughters and their families: Deborah (Phil), Roxanne (Cam), Danna (Don), Colleen (Michael) and Ronda (Ron); her seven grandchildren: Jacqueline (Arik), Josh (Astrid), Meredith, Brett (Brenna), Connor (Chris), Cole and Mackenzie; and 4 great-grandchildren; Haley, Maya, Amy and Ellis.

Kathy is also survived by four siblings; Michael, Edward, Walter and Sonya and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by husband Roy and granddaughter Laine.

We are grateful to so many family and friends for their ongoing love and support as well as the caring staff at Age Care Midnapore.

If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada ( in memory of Kathleen are gratefully accepted.

Funeral Services and Reception will be held at the Heritage Pointe Golf Club (1 Heritage Pointe Drive, Heritage Pointe, Alberta T1S 4H1) on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through

In living memory of Kathleen Peters, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB Telephone: 403-256-9575.

Condolence Messages

  1. Peters gals, and families….
I will fondly remember your Mom, having known her for nearly 50 years. She participated in many teenage conversations then adult ones, too. Her wit and resilience we’re admirable. She was a trouper!

  2. Dear Debbie, Roxie, Dana, Colleen and Rhonda;
So sorry I wasn’t able to make it to Calgary to your Mom’s memorial service. December has been so busy and I’m fighting a virus, so decided it wasn’t a good idea to go. I will always remember your parents visits to us on the farm. Your Mom was so beautiful and so good to all of us. With at least ten of us kids running around, she and my Mom took it all in stride, never losing their cool! My parents adored her, too, and Mom loved getting her letters and news about all your family.
I know she’ll be so dearly missed by all of you, and everyone who knew her.
    Love and Hugs,
    Diane P. in Saskatoon

  3. Dear cousins & families, It seems so long ago since our families got together in the summers. I have many great memories of your family coming to the farm at Lucky Lake & how did our Moms ever find places for everyone to sleep & eat??
Our Mom loved Aunt Kathy like a sister, as we all did. I always thought your Mom was the most beautiful person I ever knew.
    Your cousin Hazel

  4. To all of you

I met you mom a number of times spread out over many years and always came away with the feeling that she was very genuine, down to earth, warm, thoughtful and kind. Heck of a good cook too! In the living years, my own mother often talked glowingly about her friendship with Kathy and would tell stories about the glory days the two of them shared together. They had good times, lots of laughter and a kindred friendship that could not be broken so no doubt that continues wherever they may be now.
We’re so sorry for your loss and hope the healing process begins soon. Rest in peace Kathy.
