February 28, 1935 – January 25, 2013
Allan Peirce passed away peacefully at the Peter Lougheed Centre on Friday, January 25, 2013 at the age of 77 years.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Allan is survived by his wife Heather; son David (Alice); daughter Shelagh (Mark); three grandchildren, Colby, Samuel and Isobel; brothers, Ronald, Robert and Paul; sisters Donna and Susan; nephew Ben; and nieces, Casey, Darcy, Lisa, Pam and Melanie. He was predeceased by his parents, Hubert and Mary Peirce.
Allan will be remembered as a patient, dedicated family man who loved a good joke. He was born and raised in Winnipeg where he attended Norwood Collegiate and the University of Manitoba where he received a degree in mechanical engineering in 1959. He and Heather married in Winnipeg on December 16, 1961. In 1963, they moved to London, Ontario where Allan received an MBA in 1965 at the University of Western Ontario. Throughout the years, they also lived in Toronto and Cambridge, Ontario and Lethbridge, Alberta, finally settling in Calgary in 1979. For many years he was involved with Scouts Canada, first as a Cub leader in Cambridge and then as a Scout leader in Calgary. At the age of twelve he became interested in model railroading. This became a lifelong hobby. He was a member of the model railroading group, South Bank Short Lines until his passing. This group was like family to him. He was also an avid curler from a young age. He and Heather enjoyed travelling together to England, Europe, Mexico, Cuba and Southeast Asia.
