ONYSYK , Gladys

March 27, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Gladys beloved wife of the late John Onysyk, passed away on March 27, 2018 at the young age of 95 years. She was surrounded by family as she drew her last breath and went home to be reunited with family and friends.

Gladys was a long-time resident of Edmonton before eventually moving down to Calgary in the summer of 2016 to be closer to family. She enjoyed gardening and wildlife, caring for her backyard, and passing along the timeless art of perogie making. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and upon moving to Calgary, was able to enjoy weekly lunch dates of fish & chips, beef liver or borscht with her children.

Gladys is survived by her children Pat and Dave (Debbie); grandchildren Amy, Adam (Tammy), Angie (Dan); five great-grandchildren Leah, Grace, Ava, Sophie, Cooper; one brother Peter (Margaret) Yurkiw; sisters-in-law Anne Ozimok, Olga Boyko, Pat Onysyk, Elizabeth Yaceyko, Susie Smithson; brother-in-law Dan (Vicki) Onysyk; as well as many nieces and nephews and relatives in Canada, USA, Mexico, and Australia.

Besides her loving husband, John, Gladys was predeceased by her youngest daughter Linda, on January 13th of this year, whom was Gladys’ long-time companion and caregiver when they were still living in Edmonton. She was also predeceased by parents, Jakim and Mary Yurkiw; siblings, Anne (Joe) Sloboda, Josephine (John) Maksymic, Sister Zoya SSMI, John (Mary) Yurkiw, Stephen Yurkiw; sisters-in-law, Mary (Onnie) Honkonen, Kay (Ely) Tanasiuk, Stephanie (John) Coggins; brothers-in-law, Peter Onysyk, Andrew Onysyk, Nick Ozimok, Bill Boyko and Emil Yaceyko.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the many caregivers and friends Gladys had at The Bethany, and especially the Pastoral Team who ministered to her Spiritual Needs.
Special Thanks go out to Khal – Checker #1402 – for our treasured outings.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at Bethany Care Centre (916 18A Street NW, Calgary, AB) in the main floor chapel off the atrium, south entrance on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 6:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at Exaltation of the Holy Cross (9003-153 Avenue, Edmonton, AB) on Monday, April 9, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow at Parish Hall. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
