OANCIA, Betty

December 15, 1932 – Saskatoon, SK
July 7, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta
Gracing planet earth for 85 years

Betty beloved wife of Raymond Oancia of Calgary, passed away on July 7, 2018.

Betty Oancia (nee Smith) was born and raised in Saskatoon, SK. She was predeceased by her three sisters Luzelle, Dorothy and Madeline, and her brother Arthur who was killed in WWII and buried in Italy. She met her soulmate Ray when he was studying engineering at U of S and they were married when Ray graduated in 1952. Betty and Ray resided in eight cities in six provinces during their 65-year marriage: Winnipeg, North Battleford, Inuvik, Edmonton, Dartmouth, Powell River, Vancouver and Calgary. Ray and her three children, Candace, Derek, and Heather (Stephen) survive her.

Betty was an adventuresome soul; she adapted well to the relocations and always created a cozy household and made many friends wherever the family called home. Being a full time domestic engineer Mom was always busy with creative endeavors – decorating, needle projects and hobbies, and showcasing her amazing cooking skills which she passed on to her husband and offspring. She loved it when family brought friends over for dinner and was quick to set another place at the table.

Betty faced many health challenges over her lifetime but they did not keep her idle for long. She spent much time doing volunteer work. She and Ray wintered down south for 22 years, starting in Palm Springs and then Lake Havasu where they met many life-long friends. They also enjoyed travelling including Europe and some ocean cruises. She rarely missed Coronation Street, which she discovered some 50 years ago. Many a night was spent playing cards and board games.

All that were fortunate enough to be in her circle will miss Betty. We love you dearly Mom.

An intimate gathering for a celebration of life will take place this fall. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Bow Crest Care Centre for taking such good care of Betty in her final months.

In living memory of Betty Oancia, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W. CALGARY, AB, T3G 2T3, Telephone: 403-241-0044.
