NORN, Sophie Louise

June 13, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Sophie Norn of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully and gracefully on June 13, 2019 at the ripe age of 94 years.

Sophie was a force to be reckoned with. She emigrated from Poland at age eight. She was keenly politically aware and loved keeping abreast of current events and the Royal Family. At nineteen, she married Bill and lived all over Canada and Europe through his RCAF career. She was very involved with the CWL at Canadian Martyrs Church. Sophie loved to hike, garden, golf and socialize with her numerous RCAF friends, loving family and large social network.

She is survived by her son Bill; brother Casimir Hyciek; daughter-in-law Roberta; granddaughter Stephanie; nephews, Stan Hyciek (Gail), Tim Hyciek, David Hyciek (Barb), Gary Hyciek (Jocelyn); nieces, Gail Liggett (Brian), Cheryl Boyd (John), Karen Holinski (Dennis), and Andrea Hyciek (Dewayne); grandnieces, Janine (Ryan) and Michelle (Anders); her great-grandnieces, Calla and Caroline; and great-grandnephew Rowan.  Sophie was predeceased by her husband, Bill; her sister Jean; and her brothers, Frank and Walter.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at Canadian Martyrs Catholic Church (835 Northmount Drive N.W., Calgary, AB) on Monday, June 17th, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Canadian Martyrs Catholic Church (835 Northmount Drive N.W., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, June 18th, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall.

    Bettie and I offer you our heartfelt condolences over the passing of your Mom and mother in law.
    Although we did not meet Sophie until the 1990’s, we shared many happy times together as the common thread of our airforce days united us as good friends for ever.
    We shall always remember her as a gentle, loving and sincere person with a genuine smile and captivating laugh. Now she joins her husband whom she dearly loved. Rest well, Sophie.
