NOGUE, Anne “Yvette”

July 6, 1928 – Montmartre, Saskatchewan
March 30, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Yvette Anne Nogue left us, to be with the Lord, on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at the age of 90.

Yvette was born and raised in Montmartre, Saskatchewan, the seventh of ten children born to Willie and Christiana O’Shaughnessy. At the age of 21, this French bilingual beauty, with her Irish charm and warm Canadian heart, married Arthur, her French-Canadian Prince Charming. Over the next 58 years together, Yvette and her husband Art and their four children made their home in three Prairie Provinces and in three third world countries before finally settling in Calgary, Alberta. Wherever they were, they always stayed in touch with their extended families and embraced their communities with Christian love, forging many lifelong friendships. Yvette never hesitated to use her many gifts through the years. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and second mother to nephew Roy O’Shaughnessy. She could bring any child on a magic carpet ride with her imaginative and creative play. Yvette could type a mile a minute and organize a room in no time. She loved music and brought many gatherings to life with her piano and rich harmonies. Her volunteer spirit was endlessly employed with the CWL, Boy Scouts, L’Arche, a leper colony in Guyana, church ministries, fundraisers and charities. Yvette was a fellow soul you could count on to listen, to care and to be there when you needed a friend. A few years ago, Yvette was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Though a frightening prospect, Yvette walked through this final part of her journey slowly “letting go and letting God” while maintaining her faith, her sense of humor (“still kickin”) and her ability to love.

Yvette is survived by her children, Bob (Rosemary), Evelyn (Bill) Vandenhengel, Colette (David) Macpherson, Caroline (Garth) Gunther; her grandchildren, Ryan (Malinda), Brendan (Adele), Colin (Cailin), Keith (Kristen), Kyle (Melanie), Darcy (Melissa) Dylan, Kristin (Travis), Dane; as well as great-grandchildren, Holden, Declan, Sophie, Anora and Talya; her siblings, Ray O’Shaughnessy, Gus (Dorothy) O’Shaughnessy and Joyce Chartier. Yvette was predeceased by her husband Arthur George on January 2, 2008 as well as her siblings, Jean, Charles, Germaine, Lucille, Terry and Rose-Marie.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church (8944 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated also at St. Gerard’s on Friday, April 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Please forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. This week, our family lost an inspiration to all of us. She was my loving aunt, one of my mom’s sisters, and a best friend to her – a person who cared about everyone. She was sunshine on a gloomy day, a positive light even in the darkest of times. She was my Aunt Yvette! My heart hurts, but at the same time, I know there is incredible singing going on with her, her husband, my wonderful Uncle Art, my mom, and many other O’Shaughnessy family members in heaven (listed in this obituary); we miss you all. What a celebration they must be having. Her picture in this obituary says it all about who she was. As a family, when we could get together, we would have huge family singalongs of old Irish and other favorite songs. We often sang about each other, including this fine song:

For she’s a jolly good fellow,
    Which nobody can deny.

That’s you, Yvette. I love you and will miss you, but cherish your memories and who you are!

Prayers to all the Nogue and O’Shaughnessy families!

Dear Bob, Evelyn, Colette, and Caroline
When you’ve lost a mother and a very special aunt to so many of us
It is never easy to lose someone you love. There is never a perfect moment to say
    “Good-Bye”
Your mother was with you all your life, no other person in the world was there for you, as she was. When you miss her so much you ache inside – Close your eyes – In silence she is there with you. Peacefully she smiles at the kind generous people you have become, thinking of you as her little child, Always loved – Always precious in her sight. In the soft breeze, may you feel her touch, In the sunlight feel the warmth of her being. Know that she is with you, watching over you with love that lasts forever.
Much love and my sincere condolences to all your families.

  24. Auntie Yvette, you will be missed by many with your kind soul and loving nature. I remember as a young boy staying with you and your wonderful family for a short while in my youth. And I remember feeling your generosity, your vibrant spirit, and your inspiring selflessness. I have always secretly admired you and seen you as an example of one who walks towards the path of God all your life – by your actions. May you now enjoy the embrace of God. You deserve eternal love. Here on earth, many will continue to love you as well. I know I will. I will always remember you.
