NAYEL, Donna Marie Ann (nee Nicholson)

August 12, 1964 – Montreal, Quebec
January 16, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of Donna Marie Nayel (nee Nicholson) of Calgary. Donna passed away suddenly on Wednesday January 16, 2019 at the age of 54 years.

Donna was a free spirit with a love of aromatherapy, the tropical outdoors, painting and making other people feel beautiful. Donna Marie was born in Montreal, Quebec and grew up in Winnipeg MB and Calgary. She spent time raising her sons in Ottawa, ON, Oromocto, NB and Calgary, AB. Donna worked many years in the oil and gas industry. She was a fantastic singer and loved to entertain as a karaoke hostess at O’Sullivan’s and found her passion in being an Advanced Clinical Aromatherapist, receiving her training from Medical Aromatherapy Training Service UK. She opened her own business, creating for her clients and building a must-have Donna original blend. Donna was an exceptional person, loving the ocean as if it were an extension of her whole being. She could entertain a crowd with her beautiful voice and sparkling personality. Donna could find the beauty and creativity in the simplest of things. Music ran through her veins, especially reggae. She was a daughter, sister, mother and a loyal friend. She will be missed greatly.

She is survived by the two lights of her life; her sons Nathan (Sara) and Jason (Cristall); mother Monique Trottier; father William Nicholson; and sisters Patty Nicholson, Caroline Nicholson (Adrien), Tammy Keeping (Jerry) and Gail Nicholson. She was loved and adored by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. 5. I met Donna as my Karaoke host, many years ago. We grew to be good friends and shared many long talks and visits together. She excelled at everything she did. Most recently, Donna created the most amazing painting, “Spirits Dancing”, which I now having hanging in my home. Donna is now a Spirit Dancing, and I will miss her. She loved Nathan and Jason to the moon and back, a fierce Mama Bear, and she would do anything for her boys. My deep condolences to all of Donna’s family. This is an immense loss for everyone.

  9. I was a small business colleague of Donna’s and I always looked forward to our story sharing sessions. I loved her feisty nature and her passion. She was always reinventing herself like a true entrepreneur. I regret I never heard her sing however as it was always something I hoped to do! She was a diverse and amazing woman and I am blessed to have known her. My thoughts are with her family right now.
