June 29, 1989 – Calgary, Alberta
May 18, 2018 – Calgary Alberta

It is with great sorrow, that we share news of the sudden passing of Andrew Nicholson Nairn, on May 18, 2018; he was just 28 years old.

He was born on June 29, 1989 at the Grace Hospital in Calgary, Alberta, and was a young man who was full of life and always had a smile and a hug for his family and friends. He was not shy to say he loved you or show you how he felt, doting on his many nieces and nephews whenever he had the chance. He loved spending time building LEGO with them, because oh how he loved to create!

Andrew had a love for music and was very artistic, spending countless hours listening to music, creating mixed CD’s, mixing and remixing his favourite tunes. From a very young age he was able to do the most intricate drawings from memory, including an Apache helicopter at the tender age of 5 – one of his proudest accomplishments to date at that time! He was also a finalist in Grade 8, for creating a picture that embodied togetherness for the Calgary Catholic Community of Caring Poster Contest.

His artistry carried over into the jobs he held, always working with his hands be it in construction or mechanics. He loved taking things apart and figuring out what made them work, constantly working to improve the vehicles he owned and have the best sound system he could create. And he loved to just drive, lost in his thoughts and music… it brought him peace and gave him the space he needed in this oh so crazy world we live in. He was a very sensitive young man with a heart of gold, always looking out for his family and friends. He didn’t have much, but he shared whatever he could and gave of his heart fully and freely.

Andrew grew up in SW Calgary with his mom, Jacquie, and their beloved dog, Jake, and had been living with her again for the last few years; precious time that Jacquie was so thankful to share with Andrew again. Andrew loved backyard BBQ’s – oh how he loved good food! – and hanging out with loved ones whenever he could. Sunny days were his favourite and he enjoyed going for long walks in various parks around Calgary, and day trips to the mountains with his mom. He was like her shadow, who she fondly called her “buddy boo” and she was simply, his “mum”. Andrew was predeceased by his “grandpa”, Ken, who was like a dad to Andrew up until his untimely passing in September 2000. Andrew was the apple of grandpa’s eye and the two were thick as thieves – whenever Jake wasn’t around at least.

On his maternal side he is survived by his loving mother, Jacquie, his aunt Megan “Meegie”, who was like a second mom to him, and uncles Paul (Jennifer), John (Tamara) and Richard (Corinne), and his “grandma” Donna (Gene), who he cherished; all were a very large part of his life and all of Calgary. Andrew is also survived by many more aunts, uncles and cousins, across Canada and the US.

On his paternal side Andrew is survived by his father Ken Vancise (Christine), and was predeceased by his grandparents Ken Vancise Sr. (2014) and Susan Behm (1966). Andrew is also survived by Ellen (Mike), Murray (Janette), Stephen, and Janice (Larry), and many Aunt’s, Uncles and cousins.

Ken and Christine will remember Andrew for his witty charm, his tech savvy mind, and of course his timing for a home cooked meal. Andrew’s passion and love for music, video games or anything techy that he could create was a joy to be around, he had a way of just sharing himself to make you happy, and you of course had a way of learning something new from him.

What they will most miss about Andrew is his caring and loving spirit, his big smile, his warm hugs, and hearing him say “I Love You Dad”.

May you rest in peace Andrew, and know that we will forever hold you in our Hearts with the Deepest Love and Care.
