MUGFORD, Bessie Burton

July 20, 1928 – Fortune, Newfoundland
September 8, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Bessie Burton Snook Mugford most loved wife of Eric Mugford was born July 20, 1928 in Fortune, Fortune Bay Newfoundland and went to be with her Lord and Saviour on September 8, 2018. She was the second of 9 children born to Hedley and Sabina Snook.

At the age of 14 she moved to North Sydney NS to live with Salvation Army Officers, Captain and Mrs. Stanley. In those years her already strong faith in Jesus Christ took on an even deeper commitment to serving God and His church. It was also in those years that she met the true love of her life Eric Dawe Mugford. Together, making their new home in Montreal Quebec, they began a love and life that would last for over 70 years lovingly raising their family of six children, Wayne (Nell) Mugford, Joyce+ (Norm)Fisher, Donna (John) Drisner, Sharon (Wayne) McKeown, Lorna (Marv) Wiebe, and Dean (Sharilee) Mugford; fourteen grandchildren, Eric, Venassa, Paul, Amanda, Melissa, Evan, Kyle, Kent, Erika, Ryan, Kaila, Kristi, Josh and Cayden; and by fourteen great-grandchildren whom affectionately called her GG, Hedley, Riley, Madison, Taya, Olivia, Bianca, Noah, Jude, Macy, Drew, Austin, Andi, Isabella and Presleigh.

Each and every one of her family was deeply loved and prayed for daily. She will also be greatly missed by her surviving seven siblings, extended family, and many friends. She was predeceased by her older sister Francis and her loving daughter Joyce.

We wish to express our sincere appreciation to Dr. Rajeev Sharma, nurses and staff of the Calgary Peter Lougheed Center Unit 43.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Airdrie, 300 Towerlane Drive, Airdrie, AB) on Friday, September 14, 2018 from 11:00 to 12:30 p.m.

  15. Granny Mugford’s most memorable gift to the Ross family was that she loved my girls when they visited with Kaila and Kristi. I am sure it was always some kind of adventure for her with girls dressing up and pretending any number of little girl stories. She will forever be remembered for her kind and giving heart. The girls never left without a little gift of some kind. What a precious lady she was! We will miss her and cherish the memories she gave us!

Our very deepest condolences to the Mugford family.

Aunt Bessie was such a huge part of my childhood. She was always a woman of strong faith and shared this faith with all of us. Aunt Bessie was kind, caring and a truly lovely person. She loved her family and showed that love in so many different ways. I am blessed to have had her in my life. Among the many things I learned from Aunt Bessie one thing in particular was that tea should always be enjoyed in a bone china cup. Rest now sweet Auntie. You will live on in our memories.
