MORTER, Donald “Don” Laurence

July 5, 1929 – Calgary, Alberta
August 28, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Donald “Don” Laurence Morter of Calgary, AB, passed away on August 28, 2018 at the age of 89 years; he was a fighter to the end.

Don was born in Calgary and was always known to take advantage of the outdoor pursuits that Calgary provides. Don was an avid and successful competitor in local, provincial, and national competitive target shooting competitions. He was an avid skier in his younger years and frequented Sunshine and Norquay, when ski-skins were needed to climb up the higher slopes. Don met his future wife, Isobel, at Sunshine Village Ski Resort. They hung the brochure from that weekend trip on the family Christmas tree throughout their sixty-three years of marriage. Don had a great sense of humour, loved to have fun, and was quick to undertake an adventure. He loved cars and WWll airplanes, but most of all he loved his wife and family. Don and Isobel had three sons, Ken, Scott, and Gordon to whom he passed along his love for the outdoors. Don spent most of his working life in the banking business, primarily with the TD bank and the Bank of Nova Scotia. He will be greatly missed by his three sons and their families and those who knew him. He was a good man and a great Dad.

Don is survived by his Sons and Daughters-in-law, Ken Morter, Scott and Sharon Morter, Gordon and Leanne Morter; four grandchildren, Shane (Stephanie), Jade, Ryan and Sarah; as well as Jade’s mother, Evelyn Celiz-Morter.

Don was predeceased by his loving wife Isobel in January of 2017.

In living memory of Donald Morter, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, CALGARY, AB, T2E 2V6, Telephone: 403-243-8200

  3. And he was a great Uncle. Always enjoyed getting together with the “other” Calgary Morters and going skiing, camping or to the lake with Don, Isobel and Ken, Scott and Gord who always got us into, uhh, interesting situations.

  4. To Don ‘s and Isobels family, My condolences upon the passing of Don to his family. Both of lived in the condo complex where I live and though I didn’t know Don too well he was always cheerful whenever he passed us in the corridors. Isobel helped me with some medical issue when she was alive following my surgery. So these were special people. Keep the memories of them alive and time heals the loss.
    God Bless,

  5. To Isobel and Family:
My heartfelt condolence is sent with love and empathy. I just lost my Betty on July 24th and know first hand how you are feeling at this time.
Don was a fellow Tder and we worked closely for several years during which time I came to know his humor and good judgement well.
    Love, Dave Meriam
