Morris, Michelina (Maggie) nee D’Amico

MORRIS,  Michelina (Maggie) nee D’Amico
April 17, 1922 – Nordegg, Alberta
April 13, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta

Morris, Michelina (Maggie), nee D’Amico, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2015 at the age of 92 years. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Albert.

Maggie had a happy childhood and a life that was filled with hard work, music and dancing. She was born in Nordegg, AB, the fifth of Felicia and George D’Amico’s six children. She lived in Nordegg for 33 years then moved to Calgary with her family in 1955.

Maggie had many life long friends from Nordegg as well as many enduring friendships with those she met when she and Albert moved to Calgary. Shipley Drugs was an enjoyable workplace for her for 16 years. Together with Albert they owned various businesses including motels and restaurants.

Maggie had many talents. She drafted patterns and sewed for herself, her daughters and grandchildren. The vegetable garden she planted was shared with many; her homemade pasta and sauce were delicious as were her strawberry jam and tarts. Berry and mushroom picking brought her hours of pleasure.

Maggie cared for her mother for years and was tireless and generous in her love and devotion to her family. Together, Albert and Maggie were a wonderful team.

Maggie is survived by her three daughters: Frances (Ray) and their children, Albert and Kathleen (Terry); Maxine and her children, Kelly (Scott), Michelena (Billy), Robbie and Jessica; Patricia and her children, Daniel and Tessa; great-grandsons Anthony, Beck, Kambal, Joseph, Jeromi and Ben; and sister-in-law Metha.

She was also predeceased by her sisters, Vera and Serena; brothers Zupito, Guido and Alfredo; sisters-in-law Frankie, Elsie, Hilda and Winnie; and by her brothers-in-law, Tom, Robert, Billy, Red, and Lucky.

A Celebration of Life will be held at St Thomas United Church (100 Hawkwood Blvd NW) on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 2:00 PM. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Darrel Eliason, the staff of the Bow-Crest Care Centre and Maggie’s devoted companions. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to Cowboy Trail Church, Box 783 Cochrane, AB T4C 1A9 or the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program c/o Rockyview Hospital, 7007 14 ST SW Calgary, AB T2V 1P9. Flowers gratefully declined.

In living memory of Michelina Morris, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, Telephone: 403-276-2296.

  8. It is always difficult to say goodbye but knowing what is waiting for Auntie Maggie on the other side makes it much easier. Coffee parties with siblings. Campfire sing-alongs. Picking berries and not have to worry about bears or park rangers. Most of all, walking hand in hand with her beloved Albert. I have often said that if you looked up love in the dictionary it should be accompanied with a picture of Maggie and Albert. The fact that they are together again brings a smile to my face that is far bigger than any tears shed.

Goodbye, we miss you, we love you.
