August 8, 1926 – Hanna, AB
September 7, 2015 – Calgary, AB
John Frederick Moore (Jack) passed away on Monday, September 7, 2015 at the age of 89.
He is survived by his three children, Maureen Moore (David Scobie), Michael Moore (Kathy) and Kathryn Moore (Brad Wiese); his grandchildren Taryn Petrovich (Steve), Evan Motter, Callum Moore (Victoria), Stephen Moore, Brittany Wiese and Liam Wiese. He also leaves his much adored great grandchildren Bronte and Monroe Petrovich. Jack was predeceased by the love of his life, our mother, Ileene Moore (nee Lepper) in 2008; his brother David Francis Moore; and his parents Frank and Gertrude.
Jack was born in Hanna, Alberta, but at an early age moved to Calgary where his father worked for CP Rail. Growing up in Inglewood, Jack and friends would often be found roaming the prairie trapping gophers for a penny a tail and occasionally “hopping” a train ride into downtown Calgary. Joining the Navy in 1944, at the age of 17, he was stationed in Halifax, serving on corvettes doing convoy duty. Accepted into the Faculty of Law at the University of British Columbia in 1947, Jack married his sweetheart, Ileene and the two began a lifelong adventure which gradually evolved from student poverty to a fulfilling career in Calgary in the practice of Law. As a corporate lawyer, Jack represented numerous small and large corporations in the burgeoning oil and gas industry in the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. He loved the practice of law and he considered many of his clients to be lifelong friends.
His children, Maureen, Michael and Kathryn were privileged, growing up in a close supportive family with dad ensuring many weekend adventures, hiking, biking, camping, skiing at Lake Louise, and sailing on Glenmore reservoir. In the early 70’s, under Dad’s direction, the family undertook to build a cedar log cabin along the banks of the Bow River in Canmore, where many family activities and traditions were formed. In retirement, Mom and Dads’ love of cycling, found them riding the bike trails of Calgary, Canmore and the Kananaskis in summer, and, as snowbirds, the canal trails in and around Phoenix. Mom, until her death, always just a bike length behind Dad. Dad rode his bike until just before his 89th birthday.
