MOERSCH, Sally (Sarah A.)

June 9, 1934 – Ederney, Northern Ireland
June 2, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Sally, beloved wife of Fred Moersch of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2018 at the age of 83 years.

Sally grew up in rural Northern Ireland and moved to Calgary in 1961 after finishing her nursing education. Sally came to North America, following some of her pioneering relatives, and settled in with the help of her Uncle Sam and Aunt May. Sally was quick to make friends and chose to remain in Calgary. She loved to travel and set out regularly to explore and to visit her other relatives in California. It was at a nursing friend’s wedding where she met Fred and they were married themselves six months later.

Sally’s success in Calgary prompted other family members to follow in subsequent years including her brother John and sister Evelyn who also chose Calgary as home. Sally was always quick to encourage other family and friends from Ireland and elsewhere to visit Calgary and very much enjoyed playing host and tour guide to many of them.
Over the years, Sally loved spending time with family, tending her flower beds, hosting and attending various social activities with neighbours, and travelling. One of her favourite pastimes later in life was spending time with Fred at the cabin in Windermere.
Although Sally moved away from Northern Ireland and ceased nursing many years earlier, her gregarious nature and genuine concern for her friends’ and family’s well being were prevalent to the end.

Sally is survived by her beloved husband of fifty-five years, Fred; her two sons and daughters-in-law, Peter Moersch and Leslie Munson, John and Trish Moersch; a sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Craig Gordon; brothers, John and Maureen Flack, Graham and Gill Flack; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss her dearly.

A Celebration of Sally’s Life (casual, with lite fare) will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at 2:30p.m.  Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
