MERRETT, Robert “Bob” Price

May 7, 1938 – Winnipeg, Manitoba
January 5, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Robert (Bob) Price Merrett. He passed away on January 5, 2019 at the age of 80 years after a long battle with cancer.

Bob was born on May 7, 1938 in Winnipeg, MB. Bob’s family moved to Calgary in 1942. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Geological Engineering. He worked in the Oil & Gas industry until he retired in 1995. On September 2, 1961 Bob and Darlene were married in Calgary AB. Bob and Darlene loved to travel and took many road trips. They also traveled internationally with friends. Bob loved troll fishing and later in life tried his hand at fly fishing. He curled for many years, first with Rotary club and then, up to the age of 79, with the old timers league. Bob’s legacy will be his family and his dogged determination. The years of being a great-grandfather were some of the best. He loved laughter, good times and a good scotch with family and friends.

Bob is survived by his wife Darlene; sister Geri (Lorne); daughters, Cheryl (John) and Teri; granddaughters, Jessica, Chelsie (Steve), Erin (Thomas); great-granddaughters Kaydence, Aspen and Laura; and five nieces and one nephew. Bob was predeceased by his father John Milton, his mother Eva, son Michael and great-granddaughter Arizona.

A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E.) 22. Dear Mrs. Merrett and Family,
The first time I remember meeting Mr. Merrett I was about 5 years old and he taught us how to toss horseshoes. Later, going on a fishing trip with him and Dad was a wonderful experience. His enthusiasm when a fish hit the line was infectious and a joy to watch. He managed to smile and growl at the same time while deftly dealing with a salmon that chose to fight. I am very sorry to hear about his passing. He meant a lot to our family and my youth was richer for having known him.
