MEREDITH, Hazel Winnifred

September 6, 1927 – Barrington Passage, Nova Scotia
October 27, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Hazel Meredith of Calgary, AB, passed away on October 27, 2018 at the age of 91 years.

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our amazing mother and wonderful grandmother. She passed away at Garrison Green where she was a resident for the past five years. She lived in Timmins, Ontario before coming to Calgary with her family in the late 1950s where she worked at Shell Oil as a stenographer. She returned to Nova Scotia on more than one occasion but finally settled in Lethbridge and then Calgary. She loved animals and had several dogs over the years.

She is survived by: her sister Minnie Hamilton; sons Bruce (Anna) Morin, Scott (Evangeline) Meredith and Charles (Jo-Anne Thomas) Morin; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the caregivers and Dr. Geremia at Garrison Green for their dedication to Hazel’s care and for their kind and caring support during Hazel’s last hours with us.

At Hazel’s request, there will be a Private family service at a later date. If friends so desire in memory of Hazel, please consider a donation to the SPCA ( or another charity of your choice.

In living memory of Hazel Meredith, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB, T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.

I was sad to hear of Hazel’s passing. I remember visiting her last in Lethbridge at the senior’s home she was in. My condolences to all of her family. We can’t make it to the internment on Thursday, but our thoughts will be with you and the rest of the family. This life is just a moment in time. I like this quote from Russell M. Nelson…” we can’t fully appreciate joyful reunions later without tearful separations now. The only way to take sorrow out of death is to take love out of life.” I believe she is in a beautiful place now with loved ones who were waiting for her, not gone, but in a better place.
