July 10, 1926 – Michelsburg, Germany
February 1, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Our family lost a great lady on February 1, 2019. The matriarch of our family, Helen Meinhardt 92, passed away peacefully at Foothills Hospital.

Loved by all, she was known by many names; mom to her children, Oma to her grandchildren, and O-Oma to the littlest of the great-grandchildren. Most of her family was able to come to the hospital so that she could hug them all and tell them how much she loved them and how proud she was of them.

Summer was always her favorite time of the year and she could always be found either reclining on her backyard swing listening to her radio or working in her yard filled with beautiful flowers. Keeping active even in her later years, she remained up to date on current events, politics, scientific discoveries and medical breakthroughs as well as game shows. Her life revolved around family and she lived for the joy that came from them. Helen was very independent and achieved her goal to live in her own home until the day before her death.

She leaves behind a family that will sorely miss her including her children, Art (Rosalie), Heinz (Aeriol), and Rena (Peter); grandchildren, Michael (Jennie), Tara, Elena (Chris), Karl (Flora), and her great-grandchildren, Will, Jordan, Jack, Peter, and Lucas.

Helen’s beloved husband, Heinz, predeceased her by 20 years, but that did not stop her from living a vibrant and full life.

In living memory of Helen Meinhardt, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W. CALGARY, AB, T3G 2T3, Telephone: 403-241-0044.

Condolence Messages

  1. My recollection is of a kindly but serious woman with a quick smile and words of encouragement or admonishment if necessary. Just like life itself, serious but full of love for its inhabitants. We miss her dearly.
