January 15, 1953 –August 29, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lorraine McVean on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at the age of 66 years.
Lorraine had a love for learning and deeply valued education. She graduated from U of C in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts, Political Science major; UBC Bachelor of Law in 1982 and Osgoode Hall Master of Law 2015 (abt). She was a member of the Law Society of Alberta & volunteered with the Calgary YWCA as a Member of the Board of Directors, Chair of Nominations Committee and Chair of Governance Committee 2000-2015. Lorraine’s career was spent as a Securities Law specialist in the Oil & Gas industry in Alberta. Lorraine lived a full and adventurous life. She enjoyed skiing, golf, tennis, photography and playing the piano. Her early years were spent travelling with her best friend Judy Beach (nee Sayer). Later in her life she enjoyed many trips to Hawaii and Mexico with her family. She had a great love for her family & friends, and had a special knack for bringing people together.
Lorraine is survived by her son Conor Logan, and daughter Mikaela Logan. She leaves behind her sisters, Susan McVean, Karen McVean (Michael Calverley), and Cathy McVean; and brother Ian McVean (Debra McVean). She also leaves behind her parents, Bruce & Iris McVean; cousin Sheridan McVean (Judy McVean), nieces, Katrin Calverley & Lauren McVean; and nephew Ryan McVean. She was known to the younger kids as ‘Auntie Rain’ and was considered the favourite aunt. Lorraine was predeceased by the father of her children, Mike Logan.
Lorraine was a proud and loving mother who always put her children first. She was not only a parent to her children, but also to her rescue dogs Milo and Mimi. Lorraine will be remembered for her joyful attitude, carefree nature, intellect and certainly, her outrageous laugh. She will be deeply missed by all.
