Wick was a very dear friend of my Dad, Gordon (Boots) McFadyen so he was a guest in my family home during my growing up years. My Dad set a lot of store by what Wick said….if Wick McQueen said something was good – take that to the Bank! I had the distinct pleasure of taking my Mom (Hetty McFadyen) to Trinity Lodge last year for a visit with Wick and Gordon Stokke. What a delight – the ” boys” brought many happy memories back for my Mom and allowed me a great “photo op” to mark the occasion. Our sincere condolences to the McQueen family and our thoughts and prayers are with you. Wick was a treasure and will be missed.

Wick McQueen meant the absolute world to me, as did his wife Marie. I have known him since I was a young girl. He watched me grow up and my husband and I were honoured to have him emcee our wedding. Always positive, always loving, always there through the ups and downs of life. Truly one of those one in a trillion people that you are so incredibly lucky to have in your life. To say he will be missed is a complete understatement. The world is so much worse off without him in it. Loved him so much.

  4. I was lucky enough to chat with Wick just after Christmas. We talked for almost 45 mins as he told me how much he loved his new home, the food and the people there. I know he must have been the life blood of the place. I’ll never forget his laugh; it was the same laugh I remember from our wedding, and I’m sure it brought many smiles to others in his new home as well. Rest in peace sir. You will be missed.

  7. Wick was certainly the consummate gentleman, a smiling countenance and a heartfelt welcome to all. It was a pleasure to know Wick and work beside him on the Calgary Police Service. Wick served his country well and has now earned his heavenly wings. Although he will be missed, especially by his family, I am sure he left you a trove of wonderful memories that will sustain you in the years ahead. God needed another good guy so he made a great choice. RIP Wick. Ray and Sandie McBrien

  8. I first met Wick as a rookie. He greeted me with a smile and a laugh and I knew I had come to the right place. I believe he was like that with everyone. I was in court one day when Wick was called to give evidence. When asked to state his full name, the judge made some joking comment about finally knowing his full name. Obviously, the judge had also previously met Wick or already knew of him.
    Rest in Peace Wilson Deans

  10. I never worked for Wick but I worked around him many times. Wick was one of the few Inspectors that you could feel real comfortable around when you are a junior member. He made you feel important, even though you knew you weren’t. He always had a smile and a story. I will miss my brother in arms. Condolences to all his family and friends

  15. As a young man looking towards a career with the Calgary Police Service, I met Wick when I applied for a job at Heritage Park as a Security Officer. As my boss, he was always very supportive and in fact encouraged me in endeavours to join the CPS where I am still employed. His demeanour and support was instrumental in my application for CPS being successful. I offer my most heartfelt condolences to Marie and the rest of the family on Wick’s passing.

  22. Brenda and Betty Biddell

My sisters and I got to know Wick in Trinity Lodge where my mom also lives. He was always fun and friendly. He had incredible stories to tell and even shared a written one about his formative years and early years as a Calgary Police Officer. I told him it should really be published – a true piece of Calgary’s history – inspiring and heartbreaking. My mom and her friends appreciated Wick’s friendship and good humour. We all wish we had known him longer. Rest in Peace, Wick, you are missed.

  24. I have long thought of Wick’s leaving this earth, and admit it was a better place because of him.

I always felt truly fortunate to know this man, somebody I respected and looked up to. When growing up I was a neighbor, on Fyffe Road of the McQueen family, and we all knew a Policeman lived there. He was always kind. Years later, he offered me position at Heritage Park doing event security (he knew I had a future dream) and I loved the place (as he did). I later joined CPS where I am still serving. I highly respected, and revered this man and am Thankful that our paths crossed. The McQueen family has long been gone from Fairview and Fyffe Road, but whenever I go back or drive past their old home, I cannot help but think of Wick McQueen.

Clearly, a Gifted and Wonderful Person.
