June 14, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with deep sorrow that we say goodbye to Grant McKay a father, grandfather and friend on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at the age of 90 years.
Born in Calgary to Harry and Elizabeth McKay, Grant embodied the definition of a real man strong, honest, heroic and forthright with an undeniable optimism and joy of life. He loved the great outdoors, fishing and hunting, and his idea of paradise was getting out into the mountains with his wife, Adrienne, in the camper (which she packed with enough stuff to deal with any contingency short of a global war) and a dog to throw a stick for. He imbued in us a strong work ethic and to give your best. He also taught us the value of simple pleasures, helping your neighbor, fixing stuff and that you don’t have to have a lot of money to be rich. At nineteen Grant starting his own business with a seismic drilling truck and went on to work as the operator of Britannia Auto Service for thirty-five years before retirement and travel.
Grant is survived by sons Tom (Jennifer), Keith (Sherry); granddaughters Christina (Renato), Taryn and Devan; his sisters Norma Kincaid and Lorna (Barry) Parsons; Grant will also be fondly remembered by nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.
Grant was predeceased by his wife of sixty-four years Adrienne (nee Mitchell), and his daughter-in-law Cheryl McKay (nee. Cornett-Ching)
