McINTOSH, Douglas Ian

April 5, 1953 – Toronto, Ontario
January 19, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Remembering Douglas Ian McIntosh, born April 5, 1953 in Toronto, died Saturday, January 19, 2019 peacefully at his home in Calgary in the loving company of his wife and three children.

Doug believed in living life to its fullest. In his professional life, he was known for his uncommon vision, and strategic thinking. The ability to see ten steps ahead led to a rewarding career in insurance, running and growing a successful brokerage, while never failing to make time to support and mentor.

Away from work, Doug took every opportunity to connect with nature. He had a particular passion for Fish Creek Provincial Park, and came to know every bend, nest, teepee ring and animal sign in the park. He was the person you wanted to walk with – he combined an encyclopedic knowledge of the natural world with genuine appreciation and wonder. He was the best.

Most of all, Doug was a devoted family man, who delighted those closest to him with his tireless support, mischievous sense of humour, and unswerving optimism.

He is remembered by his devoted and unfaltering wife, Katia McIntosh, his children Melissa Kay (Maclean), Stephanie Burns (Neil), and Bryce McIntosh; two grandsons, Ian Kay and Conor Burns; his mother Mary McIntosh; and his siblings, David, Nancy, Shelagh, Pat, Margaret, and Leslie.

His family is eternally grateful for his doctors and nurses, in particular his oncologist Dr. Hao, who consistently went above and beyond in ensuring Doug had the best care. He will be remembered and cherished by the many whose lives he touched, and we’ll think of him on every nature walk. Give up, never.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be a small service later this week. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Doug McIntosh, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB, T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.

Our sincere condolences to Katia and all of the McIntosh family.
We had the pleasure of enjoying an afternoon with Doug and Katia last July while on a motorcycle trip out west. We had not seen Doug for a number of years and we were pleased that we had the opportunity to reminisce about our childhood adventures on canoe trips in Algonquin Park, our first motorcycles and other fun times together.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you in this time of mourning.
