McGEACHIE, Robert (Bob) John

January 7, 1946 – Montreal, Quebec
October 22, 2015 – Rome, Italy

Bob McGeachie, beloved husband of Val McGeachie of Calgary, passed away while travelling on October 22, 2015 at the age of 69 years.

The most important part of Bob’s life was his dedication and commitment to his family. He loved and adored his grandchildren, and enjoyed attending and supporting them in their sporting activities. Cooking, entertaining and spending time at the cabin were on the top of the list to “having a great day”. He will be infamous for his Christmas Fondues and Bob’s Caesar Salad, heavy on the garlic.

As a father he coached baseball and hockey and left a very positive impression on many of the players who had the privilege of playing on his teams. His coaching and mentorship resulted in many of the players building stronger character and becoming responsible adults.
Bob spent his life giving and caring for others. He never asked or required a “thank-you” in return. His gratification was seeing the smiles on the faces or satisfaction in the tummies of those he served.

Besides his loving wife of forty-eight years, Bob is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ryan and Shannon McGeachie of Katy, TX and Craig and Teri McGeachie of Calgary; five grandchildren, Carter, Spencer, Harris, Kristin, and Owen. He is also survived by his brother Donald McGeachie of Montreal, QC; two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Shirley and Roger deTilly of Montreal and Guylaine Langelier of Calgary and his niece Melissa and great-niece Eliza Macdonald of Chico, CA. He was predeceased by his parents Isabelle and Donald McGeachie.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to your favourite charity.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the EMTs who made every effort to save Bob, as well as to the Canadian Consulate and the Italians, too many to mention who were so very caring and compassionate towards Val during a very difficult time.

In living memory of Bob McGeachie, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E. Telephone 403-256-9575.

  4. Thank you to Bob for allowing me to get my start in coaching back in 1988-89 as the stick boy for the 7 Clubs Jr Capitals. I have gone on to many great experiences, but none were as memorable as those old Capital teams.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences from my family to yours.

    Respectfully,
    JJ

To Val and the McGeachie family
It is with great sadness that we heard of Bobs passing. Our times together with Bob, Val and the McGeachie family were all too infrequent but very much enjoyed. We will hold in our hearts lovely memories of those times and we will be ever grateful for the warmth and love given by you all to our son Terry. Our hearts in Newfoundland are with you at this time
With love John and Barb Barron

  6. Val my thoughts and prayers are with you Ryan and Craig and their families at this time.
So many memories of life at the East Calgary Twin and the times I spent with your whole family there and also away from the rink.
Val the last time I saw you and Bob was at a Hockey Calgary Appreciation Banquet and seeing you both there made that a very special night for me. It was so nice to catch up and have some good laughs with some old friends.
Bob was a wonderful person and will be missed by all who were lucky to have been part of his life.

  20. I’m having a hard time finding words to describe how sad I was to hear about Bob. He was such a great guy. Bob was a wonderful Husband, Father and Grandfather. He gave so much of his time and energy into volunteering in his Community and I’m sure changed a lot of young lives. My fondest memories of Bob are of golfing and spending time at the family cabin. What a great host and he was a master on a BBQ. His roast beef (with lots of garlic) and his caesar salad (with lots of garlic) were the best Jim and I have ever eaten!
We will all miss his happy smile and disposition but will have such great memories of Bob. I am so very sorry for your loss Val.
    Your friend Laura

We were so shocked to hear of Bob’s passing. What a wonderful man he was and what an exceptional boss for me. So glad we got together in Yuma and again for dinner at our house. It’s those special times we will remember. He left an amazing impression with everyone he touched, and what a great legacy of love he left also. He will be missed by all. There is nothing we can say to ease your pain now, just know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this sad time.

  24. Val and Family – I was deeply saddened to hear of Bob’s passing. Please accept my deepest condolences. I worked for Bob back in the mid 80’s. He was a kind man and a generous boss whose door was always open when I needed direction or just to “pick his brain”. I’ve taken his advice with me through the many years since.
