McFALLS, Sonia Odarka (nee Harasymchuk)

March 5, 1938 – Eatonia, Saskatchwan
March 23, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Sonia Odarka McFalls, beloved wife of Jim McFalls, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the age of 81 years.

Sonia grew up on her parent’s farm near Eatonia and received her public school education there. She was proud of her Ukranian heritage and at a young age attended classes to become fluent in the language – the mother tongue of her parents. She remained fluent throughout her adult life, serving a short term as an interpreter in Calgary courtroom duty. Following her formal schooling in Eatonia and a few years employment in Kindersley, SK, Sonia moved to Calgary and enrolled in Calgary Business College. Sonia met her future husband, Jim in Calgary and they were married in 1968. Throughout their marriage, Sonia was a staunch supporter of Jim in his career as well as pursuing her own working career which included nine rewarding years in the telecommunication department at Union Oil Company of Canada. Sonia’s retirement included accompanying her mother, Anna, to bingo games where new lasting friendships were formed, and of course spending time caring for her beloved cat, Tuppence. Sonia was a quiet, courageous lady with a ready smile. She lived life with determination and purpose. Sonia excelled and took pride in home planning and upkeep, she loved and supported her family and friends and was greatly loved in return. Her passing has left a void in the lives of many. She will be dearly missed.

Sonia is survived by her loving husband of fifty years, Jim; her sister, Helen Harasymchuk; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.

Sonia was predeceased by her parents, John Harasymchuk, and Anna (Louis) Luchenko; brother, Peter; and sisters, Mary (Henry) Lorriman and Nettie Bandy.
