It is with great sorrow that we announce that, Sheila Anne McCormick beautiful, beloved wife of Bill McCormick of Calgary, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 10, 2018 at the age of 81.
Sheila was born in Lethbridge, Alberta in 1936. Her family later moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan where at the age of 13 she met Bill McCormick. That was the beginning of a 68 year long love story and a 62 year marriage. She was either first or second in her class all throughout her school career and excelled in university. She received her undergraduate degree, B. Ed. with a major in science, at the University of Saskatchewan. She worked in the RCAF as a cadet during the summers in Saskatoon. After graduation, she began her teaching career in Coaldale and Lethbridge, Alberta. Sheila and Bill moved to Calgary where Sheila continued to teach and influence young people. She received her M. Ed. and Graduate Diploma in psychology from the University of Calgary and began a high school counseling career. She helped many students over the years. Her favourite schools to work at were Sir Winston Churchill High School, where she taught chemistry and William Aberhart High School, where she was a guidance counselor. She retired in 1994 and looked after her grandson, Ethan Hallett. Sheila loved to go to the ballet and had season tickets for over 50 years. Her family meant everything to her and she spent a great deal of time with them. Sunday suppers with her children and grandchildren were highlights. Her kindness, thoughtfulness, and love will be greatly missed.
