McCLURE, Paul Gordon

December 30, 1938 – Brantford, Ontario
November 14, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with broken hearts that our family announces the sudden death of Paul Gordon McClure on Wednesday November 14, 2018 at the age of 79. Paul died peacefully at home in his favorite chair while reading one of his favorite authors- John Grisham.

Paul was born in Brantford, Ontario on December 30, 1938. Paul’s career began in 1960 in sales and in 1969 he found his niche in the music industry. His introduction to the music industry was with All Records Supply Company in Toronto resulting in a move to Calgary. Throughout his 40 year career he worked for a number of labels, including Pickwick Records, Handleman Records, A & M Records, PolyGram Records, ending his music career with Walden’s Music Distributors. Paul always remarked that throughout his career in the music industry, he had ‘the best job in the world’.

Paul continued his sales career working for Arpi’s Industry out of the Heritage Costco store until June of this year. He became friends with many of the staff members at Costco and remained friends with many of his customers.

Paul leaves to cherish his memory, his wife and best friend Carolyn, his daughter Kathy, his son Paul, his son Scott and his wife Alison, along with grandchildren, Ryan, Tanner, Hailey and Austin; and great-grandchildren, Logan and Aria.

Paul is also survived by his brother John and his wife Marion, his brother Michael and numerous nieces and nephews.

Paul was predeceased by his parents, Sadie and Hugh McClure, and most recently his brother Robert (Bob) McClure.

His favourite pastime was with family and friends, planting his garden, tending to his lawn or tinkering in the garage.

Paul always kept himself busy. He firmly believed no home improvement was insurmountable, however, if you were to ask the love of his life, she would say ‘Paul was the jack of all trades, but master of none’. He was always looking for the $2.99 special or he would do it himself!!

Another one of Paul’s favourite pastimes was watching his boys play hockey. He became extremely involved in the minor hockey program from the time they were five years old to the age of 21. Throughout those years he was an Assistant Coach, Team Manager, President of NASA Northmemorial Amateur Sports Association, President of MESA Memorial East Sports Association, Vice President of the Calgary Canucks Jr. A. Hockey Club, as well as a Scout for Lake Forest College- Lake Forest, Illinois.

When he was not at the rink or working outside he found great pleasure in watching any sporting event on T.V.-whether it be a hockey or football game, golf or tennis. He especially enjoyed watching Monday night wrestling!!

Other pastimes were putting together his jigsaw puzzles, many of which he has framed, playing his word games on the computer (he said these games kept his mind sharp!) or reading books by many of his favourite authors.

Paul will be greatly missed by his family and numerous friends, but it is a comfort to all of us to know that he is now at peace and no longer struggling to breathe. Rest in Peace ‘Paul, Dad, Papa, Uncle, Friend’.

A Celebration of Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Eastside, 5388 Memorial Drive N.E., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Paul McClure, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Eastside, 5388 MEMORIAL DRIVE N.E., Calgary, AB, T2A 3V9, Telephone: 403- 248-8585.

With much respect and adoration! Paul was one of my favourite people. He hired me at Polygram when I was just barely out of school. I adored his family and I was fortunate to have continually run into him right up to the time he left Costco. Ironically Duane and I were reminiscing about the wedding gift Paul and Caroline gave us 22 years ago- which led to the conversation of the best truck he sold us in 2004. I ran into him often at Costco and we would catch up. He would joke that Caroline was still putting up with him and how well his kids were doing – which was always fun as I helped train the boys when they were just out of school doing data entry. Paul would see my girls grow every time we would wheel passed the Arpies display. He will be missed my heart goes out to his family, He always spoke so proudly of each and every one of you. And for his friends- as he was someone you just dont forget!!!

  19. Molly McClure :

My sincere condolences for you all. I surely met Paul when I was very young, on visits to Brantford on the way to or from Grandparents and Aunt Mae (and Uncle Charlie Henderson) in Kintore. It is from the kindness of Paul’s niece, Debbie, that I was notified. It has been a treasure to have kept in touch with Bob and his family.
Two brothers in such a short time! So hard.
    With loving thoughts,
Molly McClure, (a cousin of some degree)
