McCAUGHAN, Delmer

June 1, 1929 – Nokomis, Saskatchewan
January 9, 2019 – Foothills, Alberta

Delmer McCaughan, beloved husband of the late Edna McCaughan, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 9th, 2019 at the age of 89 years.

Delmer was the devoted father of Glen McCaughan and a special uncle to many nieces and nephews. Delmer was born June 1, 1929 to Lee and Beatrice McCaughan, the last of three children, on the family farm north of Nokomis, affectionately known as Seldom Seen. Along with his brother and sister, he attended school in Lockwood, Saskatchewan. He farmed with his father until they moved to Edson, Alberta after which they moved extensively across the country.

He met his sweetheart, Edna Shaw, in Nipawin, Saskatchewan, and immediately knew, even at the age of 15, she was the one for him. He swept her off her feet, and she moved with him and Dad’s parents to Ottawa where they were married July 3, 1951.

The love of the West called him back and he moved to Calgary, where he lived from that time to his passing. He worked at Calgary Iron and Machine Works for ten years and then moved onto RusselMetal until his retirement. During that time he was a union steward and so had many lively discussions with management. During this time of employment, his main goal was to own a farm, finally purchasing one at McKague, Saskatchewan in 1968. In 1992, he moved from Calgary to the Priddis area where he enjoyed his retirement thoroughly in the foothills and mountains that he loved so much. After his wife’s passing, he spent many joyful years with his cousin, Lois Fielding. They spent many good times together and he enjoyed her companionship immensely and deeply.

He was a lover and follower of the Lord Jesus Christ and found his source of life and love in his relationship with God and in the blessing of his wife and then companion, Lois Fielding. He lived his life according to II Timothy 1:7 … “For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and love, and a sound mind.”

Delmer lived a long and full life and will be deeply missed by his family, extended family and friends.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Friday, January 18, 2019 from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.

A Celebration of Delmer’s Life will be held at Jubilee Church (458 – 35 Avenue N.W.) on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the church hall. Upon completion of the reception a Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
