MAUCH, Walter Titus

June 5, 1924 – Hanau, Germany
December 4, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Walter passed away on December 4th, 2018 at 94 years old.

Dad immigrated to Canada in 1952, settling in Edmonton with his new bride-to-be Claire. Walter’s early career started with a degree in Mechanical and Safety Engineering then later changed to Chemical Engineering. He worked in Edmonton (ChemCel), Montreal, Toronto (Lummus), and Calgary (OREL Oil Recovery Engineering Limited), retiring in 1981. Walter knew many languages, and he was an accomplished veneer woodworker. He also loved the symphony, opera, gardening, food, and politics. Two of Walter’s greatest passions throughout his life were international travel and taking numerous photos of everywhere he’d been. He did this extensively, continuing until as recently as one year ago.

Walter is survived by his five children, Carola Turton, Robert Mauch, Howard Mauch (Kay Hesketh), Monica Wade (Doug Mclean), and Judy (Murray) Graham; six grandchildren, Adam, Jesse, Joanna, Sheena, LLiam, and Averyll; and five great-grandchildren, Liam, Claire, Avery, Elise, and Adaline.

He is predeceased by his wife of fifty-five years Claire (2007).

All who knew Walter knew him as “quite a character.”

Following Walter’s wishes there will not be a formal funeral service. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of their choice.

In living memory of Walter Mauch, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, CALGARY, AB, T2E 2V6, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
