December 31, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Doug Martin lived a wonderful life and passed away at home on December 31, 2018 at the age of 73.

Doug loved many aspects of life; he loved his family, he was an avid reader, loved to debate and preferably with well-aged scotch, and was energized by both a good game of golf and his career in the oil and gas industry.

Doug had an impact on all who knew him and will be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Nancy Martin (nee Meyers); daughter Wendy (Tom Patterson), and son Sandy (Kelli Bellew Martin) as well as grandchildren, Timothy and Avery Martin, Gregory and Meredith Patterson.

He is survived by his mother Peter (Norma) Martin (nee Hume), and siblings Hume (Sharon Mertens), Barbara, and Susan (Jim Burns) as well as many loving nieces, nephews and extended family.

Doug was predeceased by his father W. Ross Martin and brother-in-law Ron Tysick.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.   Reception to follow at the Calgary Golf & Country Club (1 block west of the intersection of Elbow Drive & 50th Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB) Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (https://www.heartandstroke.ca/), or Stars Air Ambulance stars.ca, or to the charity of your choice.

He will always remain in our hearts.

  6. Nancy, Wendy and Sandy

I am absolutely heartbroken to hear of Doug’s passing. Doug had a strong, positive, calming and confident influence on my life many years ago. Wendy introduced me to your family when I was a young man, desperately in need of that sort of influence and Doug had an impact on me that I’m sure he wasn’t even aware of but deserves thanks all the same.

Condolences to each of you, to Peter, and the extended family.
