It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a Pioneer “Cowboy” and respected Tsuut’ina Nation Speaking Elder at the age 85.

Francis (Archie) started riding at a young age in the boys steer riding and became a Champion Steer Decorated and known as the All Around Cowboy. With a strong ranching background raising cattle in his younger years and still active raising horses; one of his most prize bronze trophies was his 1954 Calgary Stampede Steer Undecorating statue. He competed in amateur, professional and Indian rodeo with membership cards included CRCA which was later formed into CPRA which he also held along with his IRCA membership. He was an outrider for “Many Nation Wagons”. Wild Horse Racing was one of his favorite sports. He also competed in Wild Cow Milking up to 1992.

1982 was the last year he camped at the Calgary Stampede, he welcome a lot of people into his tree teepee which included Prince Charles of Wales, amongst many other dignitaries. His latest accomplishment was presenting a buckle to the Prime Minister of Canada in February of 2016 on behalf of Tsuut’ina Nation and as the oldest member of the Cowboy Society. He has numerous rodeo accomplishments, too many to mention. Francis retired but continued to travel the rodeo circuits with his family and loving puppy Belle.

Survived by his loving wife of 54 years Laurette; he also leaves to mourn his four children Adeline, Sharon, Shane and his baby girl Livia; his adopted children Cecilia, Buddy, Janine, Celeste, Carmelita; grandchildren Lyndon, Trevor (Stephanie), Racquel, Denny (Erin), Rayshel (Clovis), Sherman Jr. (Lannea), Dusty, Chance, Darby, Byron, Joeyira. His extended grandchildren and great grandchildren, siblings, John (Lottie) Manywounds, Dorothy Runner, Violet (Gerald) Meguinis, Stephen (Gloria) Runner, Patsy (Jerry) Simon, sister in law Muriel Manywounds, numerous nieces and nephews; extended families from Tsuut’ina, Morley, Eden Valley and Siksika. The family apologizes for any one missed.

He was predeceased by his parents Pete and Annie Manywounds; paternal father George Runner; stepmother Rosie Runner; his beloved son Sherman Wayne and cherished daughter Rena Kim; his seven brothers Teddy, Pete, Amos, Sammy, Tommy, Floyd, Roger and his loving sister Margaret Dixon; and family members of the Manywounds, Runner’s, Simeon’s, Crowchild’s and Eagletail’s.

Wake Services will be held at the residence of the late Francis Manywounds Tsuut’ina Nation, AB on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 4, 2016.

Funeral Services will be held at Bullhead Community Hall (Tsuut’ina Nation, AB) on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow Tsuut’ina Cemetery (Tsuut’ina Nation, AB). Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
