MANNING, Stanley

August 15, 1943 – February 17, 2018

Stan peacefully passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the age of 74 years.

Stan was born in Huddersfield, England and moved to Canada in 1967. He lived in Fergus, Ontario until he moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1993. He worked as a production manager for most of his life. Stan will be forever remembered for his unconditional love of his family, for his huge love of soccer as a player, passionate coach and supporter of Huddersfield Town, and for his love of movies, trivia, music and theatre. Stan’s patience, mannerism, and nurturing way he touched the lives of many people, while he always encouraged everyone to see the brighter side of life. Stan’s favorite activity was spending time with his family and he felt “time was more valuable than money”. He loved holidays spent at locations by the water or just walks in the parks and pathways in the outdoors. He coached soccer for most of his life and impacted many players attitude towards a more positive approach towards their game. Many players still play the game today because of his coaching. No matter what came his way, he always felt there was a solution to every problem.

Stan leaves behind his wife Karen; children Nicola (John), Michelle (Gord), Jordan, Graham (Kristie), and Robert (Marina); grandchildren Andrew (Kevin), Matthew, Christopher, Jessica, Tyrone, Keira, Shea, Marshall, Jorja and Maja; sisters Joan and Barbara, a brother Peter (Jean); and several nieces and nephews as well as many friends.

Stan was predeceased by his first wife Freda in 1993.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow. Graveside Service will be held at a later date.

Condolence Messages

  1. Stan will be remembered fondly by all those players he coached at Blizzard Soccer Club and coaches he shared a beer or story with. I remember Stan as a passionate coach, but above all, as a true gentleman who had everybody’s best interests at heart. Stan has influenced more people than he will have imagined.
