MALAHAY, Anthony

April 4, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Anthony Liboon Malahay passed away on April 4, 2019 at the age of 88 years.

He was born in La Libertad Negros Oriental, Philippines in February 2, 1931; there he grew up acquiring the skills of fishing, swimming, riding his favourite horse and paddling his banka (canoe). Tony went to Silliman University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Later on, he received his Law degree from the University of the Visayas.

He married his first wife Rachel Poynter Ramos in 1958 and started a family. In 1971, he founded and established the Rural Bank of Guihulngan (a small independent bank) for the local population in the area of Negros Oriental.

In 1974, he immigrated with his family to Canada and made Calgary their home where Tony made many friends and helped other new-comers settle as well as forming numerous social and cultural associations within the Filipino community. After his first wife’s passing he remarried in 1998.

Tony will be dearly missed by his wife Lydia; children Poynter, Alister, Crisleo, Rachel and Ruth; and grandchildren Timothy, Carmina, Emily, Leo, Josie and Laila.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Eastside, 5388 Memorial Drive NE, Calgary, AB) on Sunday, April, 7, 2019 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Eastside, 5388 Memorial Drive NE, Calgary, AB) on Monday, April, 8, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Rocky View Garden of Peace.
