Dr. George Mah-Poy passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at the age of 78.
Born in Ponoka, AB, George grew up with his siblings, Megan, Doug and Michael as well as many cousins, aunts and uncles. He was involved in the family business at a young age including the Union Cafe and New-Glo dry cleaners. As an exceptional student, he was the most outstanding high school student in all of Alberta and received the Gold Medal for Chemistry from the University of Alberta. He studied medicine at the University of Alberta and completed his residency in dermatology at the University of Colorado in Denver. George opened his private dermatology practice in 1971 and served the Calgary community until 2013. George will be remembered for his infinite artistic talents. He was the designated Christmas carol piano player during the holidays, elaborate cake maker, flower arranger and head chef for family events. George loved to travel and most recently went on several trips and cruises with family. George loved spending time with his young granddaughters in Toronto and Montreal. They fondly called him Gungy.
George is survived by his loving wife Betty of 47 years, his daughters, Kimberly (Marcus), Alison (Sylvain); his granddaughters, Isabella, Sarah and Evelyne; and siblings Megan (Jake), Doug (Amy) and Michael.
