October 30, 1935 – February 6, 2017
Kurt was born in Denmark. As a young man, Kurt joined the Merchant Marines where he visited many European and North American ports. Deciding he liked Canada, he immigrated to Toronto where he spent his first year. He then moved to Calgary to stay with his Uncle and Aunt, Herdin and Dora Norgaard, while he articled as a Chartered Accountant at Collins Barrow. After several years he and David Poon, founded their own CA firm, Madsen & Poon, where he worked until his retirement. The firm is still going and is now LNS Chartered Accountants. Kurt enjoyed travel and toured Europe with his wife Trudy numerous times. Kurt was a gastronome. He loved good food and was known to many a downtown and 17th Avenue restauranteur, especially Bon Giornos. Kurt fought Parkinson’s disease for over 30 years, but he always maintained a positive attitude and sense of humour.
Kurt is survived by his wife, Trudy Madsen; her sister, Dora Norgaard; two nephews, Chris and Mark Cassidy; niece, Dorta and a grandniece in Denmark. He will be missed by his family, friends, business associates and caregivers.
