I had the great pleasure of having worked with Ed during my time at CPS. His honest straight forward Policing style was instrumental in formulating my values and actions as a member of the Police Service. 5. Our condolences to Ed’s family. He will be dearly missed.
I got to know Ed through our daughter marrying into the family on Ed’d wife’s side and have been fortunate to have met him on numerous occasions over the years. He was an unassuming man with incredible character the first time I met him and the last I met him. I am grateful to have known him and know that he was a man of integrity and a huge heart. I am sure the City of Calgary Police Force lost a great guy when he retired.
May he rest in peace and his memory be eternal.

At the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of Calgary, Ed was a member of the Board of Directors for a number of years. He was a caring, committed and responsible member of the board and gave an interesting perspective to many board decisions. Those community initiatives when the Calgary Police Service worked with youth and youth workers served to build important bridges. Many of the kids looked surprised when a strapping, spit and polish officer said “hello” when he came in for meetings or a planning session.
Years later, I was pleased to see that he was a member of our condominium community. From helping neighbours to putting up decorations for all at Christmas, he had an idea of service. We are all better off for having had Ed Madsen in our lives.

  9. Hearing of Ed’s passing saddened both my wife, Sandie and myself, Ray. As members of the Calgary Police Service, we both worked with Ed. He was the consummate gentleman: always fair and always supportive. May Ed’s memories sustain you in this difficult time. We are confident that the integrity he demonstrated on earth has earned him his heavenly Crown. He is not gone, just gone before! The struggles of his last days have ended; rest assured he is at peace.
