MᶜDONAUGH, Robert (Bob) Simon

March 21, 1946 – Montreal, Quebec
July 27, 2018 – Heritage Pointe, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Bob MᶜDonaugh, after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully with his loved ones by his side.

Besides his beloved wife, Lin, Bob is remembered by son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Marie-eve; favourite daughter Katie; three grandchildren, Kaiden, Jessie and Grayson. He is also survived by brother and sister-in-law John and Sandy MᶜDonaugh; his mother-in-law Elaine Peake, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Terry Hiner, Steve (Donna) Peake, Dianne (Tim) Nakaska, Ron (Gay) Peake, nieces and nephews; Sean (Nicole) MᶜDonaugh, Shannon MᶜDonaugh (Aneil Mujoomdar), James (Julie) Hiner, Matthew (Julie) Hiner, Stan (Maria) Peake, Scott (Lynsi) Peake, Jordan (Jennifer) Nakaska, Kendra (Brad) Tenson, Clayton (Chrystal) Nakaska, Adam, Samantha and Nick Peake. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Simon and Peggy MᶜDonaugh; and his sister-in-law Laura Hiner.

Bob was a man of honour, humility and humour who gathered many friends on his journey through his life. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather (Pop-pop) and a wonderful brother and friend.

Born to Irish immigrant parents in the St. Henri neighbourhood of Montreal, Bob worked hard to achieve academically and athletically at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, St. Francis Xavier and Loyola.

Bob worked for Canada Life and Towers-Perrin in Pensions and Benefits which allowed Bob and Lin to travel to many countries in Europe, the U.S. and the Caribbean. After retirement at age 58, they spent the winter months in Arizona and enjoyed new adventures from hot air balloon rides in Sedona, parasailing in Hawaii, to walking the grounds of Machu Picchu. Bob also tried to spoil many good walks with a game of golf. It was his favourite pastime outside of travel. He loved getting the rounds in early to enjoy his golf buddies by having a cold beer afterwards.
He was proud to say he worked to live not lived to work. Bob would tell others that his life was blessed with a richness of love, family, friends and experiences.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. An Irish toast to follow in the Reception Centre.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church (1600 Acadia Drive S.E., Calgary, AB) on Friday, August 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the church. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

The family would like to extend their gratitude towards the doctors and nurses from South Health Campus, Claire Mallet from Foothills Home Care and Michelle Concepcion from Retire-in-home.

    Lin and family,
Although we knew it was coming, I am really saddened to hear of Bob’s passing. I always enjoyed his humour, and his “everyman” demeanour. Even though I didn’t see Bob a lot after I left Cottonwood Golf &CC, I always enjoyed our occasional lunches with Bob and our golfing buddies. Definitely one of the good guys I’m proud to have known.
