LYONS, Rosemary Theresa

May 23, 1926 – Galahad, Alberta
October 27, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with sadness that we announce that Rosemary Lyons of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 years.

Rosemary was born in Galahad, Alberta, on May 23, 1926, the eldest of seven children born to Charles and Margaret Lyons. After the death of their father, the family left the farm in 1946, and moved to Calgary. Rosemary boarded at Sacred Heart Convent and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. She received a Teaching Certificate from the University of Alberta. She taught in Gadsby, Peace River, Taber and Calgary. Later, she attended the University of Calgary and acquired a degree in Library Science. She obtained the position of Operations Chief Librarian and was later honored with the Designation of Librarian Emerita. Rosemary was an active and devout member of the Catholic Church. She was involved with the CWL and volunteered extensively. Researching the Lyons family genealogy and compiling a family tree was a favorite pastime for Rosemary. She travelled through Ireland and Eastern Europe tracing the family roots. She made family contacts throughout her travels and maintaining those ties was important to her. Rosemary was a true story teller and she was dedicated to keeping the family history alive. All of her life, Rosemary was devoted to her family. She was a favorite sister, aunt and cousin to the complete Lyons Den. Most importantly, she remained a friend to all she met.

Rosemary is survived by her sisters Kathleen and Beatrice; brother Bill and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rosemary was predeceased by her sister Margaret Lyons FCJ, and brothers John and James Lyons.

The family would like to thank all those who cared for Rosemary in her final years at Bow View Manor; your kindness towards her is greatly appreciated.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (1566 Northmount Drive N.W., corner of Northmount Drive & Northland Drive N.W., Calgary, AB), on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the church, with Graveside Service to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Rosemary Lyons, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W. CALGARY, AB, T3G 2T3, Telephone: 403-241-0044.

  3. Cheryl (Messer) Fedoruk :

Rosemary was a very special person. She was a very dear friend to my mother, Anne Messer, and somehow seemed to know when Mom needed a lunch out or a phone call to brighten the day. She always seemed glad to see me as well, be it at a CWL meeting or out somewhere shopping. She asked about my daughter, my husband, my dad, my family, always caring about what everyone was up to. She was very generous with her time and her talents no matter who it was. I’m sure she and Mom are catching up now. Our sympathies to her sisters, brother, and extended family. Many will miss this wonderful lady.
