LUKACS, Terry

March 4, 1955 – Calgary, Alberta
Thursday, March 14, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

On Thursday, March 14, 2019, after 64 years of living with a great sense of humour, cooking, classic rock, dancing, and fixing cars and being the best friend, father, and husband and slave to the cats and dogs, we said goodbye to Terry Lukacs. He was a gentle giant with a heart as big as he was and will be missed by his loving wife and soulmate Susan and his daughter McKenzie who was his pride and joy.

Terry was born in Calgary and passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Centre. He grew up in the Springbank area and resided there his entire life. He was a natural mechanic from a young age and there was nothing he couldn’t fix or drive. His passions were LS6 Chevelles, muscle cars, big blocks, speed and if it wasn’t a Chevy with a stick shift, it wasn’t worth driving. He ran his own business, Terry Lukacs Automotive Service Centre Ltd, until he retired.

Terry is survived by his brother and sister-in-law John and Elisa, and numerous relatives. He was predeceased by his parents, Miady and Joe Lukacs and his brother Harvey Lukacs.

At Terry’s request there will be no funeral service. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If it is one of your traditions, donations may be sent in Terry’s memory directly to the Cochrane Humane Society, 62 Griffin Industrial Pointe, Cochrane, AB, T4C 0A3, Telephone: (403) 932-2072, www.cochranehumane.ca or to STARS Air Ambulance, 1441 Aviation Park N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 8M7, Tel; 403-295-1811; www.stars.ca.

In living memory of Terry Lukacs, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Cochrane, 369 RAILWAY STREET, COCHRANE, AB, T4C 2E2, Telephone: 403-932-4740.

I’m so sorry to hear of Terry’s passing. He was a good friend of my brother Darryl’s. I remember him so well…always looking under the hood of a car in the back yard. They built fast cars together. Very exciting to watch as a young girl. I also took my car to his shop when I lived in calgary. A super kind person with a heart of gold. He treated me like I was family. His generous spirit will never be forgotten. Sending all of you much love

  35. I was very very sad to hear of Terry’s passing. I have known Terry since the mid 70,s and Harders Shell days. I think I sold Terry his first 396/375 motor back around that time. Terry was a true car enthusiast especially Chevelle,s. We used to run into each other a lot when he had his shop on 58 avenue and I was at Western Corvette. Terry was a kind man with huge hands and a even bigger heart and we would always kid each other about how fast our cars were. I will miss him, my sincere condolences to his family.

  36. You heard his laugh, long before you saw him. When you did see him, it was his smile and the twinkle in his eye that stuck with you, always. His heart was bigger than the world we stand on. The depth of his humor had no end. He was a jovial, happy man who drew people to him. Harder Shell in the mid-late 1970’s, was a place where we gathered, and Terry was the personality at the core of it all. Terry loved Chevelle’s, and he tolerated us Camaro guys by keeping up a good natured banter that kept us all ‘rolling in the aisles’. I still laugh 40 years later at some of the quips he came up with. He used to say when the Camaro guys would rush over to go look at neat Camaro for sale, their biggest worry would be that a pretty hairdresser might just beat them to it. No such concern with a ’70 LS6 Chevelle with a ’22 and 4.88’s. He was always went out of his way to be kind to me in the early days. Later when he realized his dream and opened his own shop on 58 ave, it was a place where car guys gathered. Terry was in his element, always making too much time for his friends. I shall miss him always and my thoughts are with Susan and McKenzie.

A phone call or a text message every couple of weeks. Terry always had a positive attitude and terrific sense of humor. He was a proud husband and father. He was a walking thesaurus when we talked about Chevelles! I’m really going to miss our conversations. RIP Terry.
