Velma grew up in Neville, SK, and as a young woman moved to Swift Current, where she met her husband Marlyn Lovestone.

After Marlyn’s death in 1951, and her father’s death in 1952, along with her mother, son, and brothers, Velma moved to Victoria, BC. She worked for the BC Telephone Company for thirty-two years until her retirement in 1984.

She is survived by her only son, Lon (Janet) Lovestone; her four beloved grand-daughters, Cheri (Ryan) Tombs, Stacey (David) Hayes, Jennifer (Cory) Evaskavich, Christina (Todd) Whitehead; and seven great-grand-children. She also leaves her brother, Ray; sister-in-law and close friend, Lorraine Donnelly; sisters-in-law, Marlys Lovestone and Brenda Donnelly; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Velma was predeceased by her husband, Marlyn; her parents, May and Roy Donnelly; brothers, Floyd and Lonnie; and sisters, Ethel, Edith, and Edna.

Velma will be remembered fondly by all that knew her, for her great smile. For many years she enjoyed wonderful times celebrating special occasions with her family and friends. She always cherished these special occasions, in particular Christmas, St. Patrick’s Day, and birthdays.

The Lovestone family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all the staff at The Beverly Centre and their thoughtful care during the last two years.

As per Velma’s wishes, no service was held and she has been laid to rest next to her husband, Marlyn, at Mt. Pleasant Burial Park in Swift Current. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

Condolence Messages

  1. Theo Kalichack :

How I long for the good old days…. especially time spent at the Lovestone home as a child. My fondest memories are of Velma opening the front door and saying “come on in”, Gramma Donnelly at the stove, and Lons’ smiling face… always ready to play. I recall many of the neighborhood kids (the gang) playing in their basement and around the neighborhood on Carlisle. The happy days. I am deeply saddened by this news and send my love and deepest condolences to Lon and the Lovestone/Donnelly family. Forever in my heart.

  2. Joanne Barnard :

Growing up north of Swift Current, I never knew Velma but certainly had heard of her. When I saw her obituary in today’s Victoria Times Colonist, the name rang a bell for me and I could see why when I read it. Her husband Marlyn was my father Ken Bardahl’s best friend and was best man at his and my mother’s wedding in Swift Current in December of 1947. I grew up hearing frequently of Marlyn and the tragic auto accident that had left Velma widowed with a new baby to care for. I was pleased to see from her obituary that she went on to live a full life full of family and friends. My condolences to you all.
